W. E. Jones?

[edit]

The William Lewis Thomas article makes reference to "He was one half the then famous pre-war halfback partnership, alongside Welsh international outside half W. E. Jones", was this partnership at Ystradgynlais RFC, or Neath RFC? According to wru.co.uk, a William Jones played Flanker (not outside half (fly-half)) for Wales against Ireland on 8 March 1924. However, according to espnscrum.com, his full name is William John Jones, so not a W. E. Jones. The only other W. Jones mentioned on wru.co.uk, is a Windham Jones who played Half Back (scrum-half) way back in 1905, so a different era, and his full name is Anthony Windham Jones, so not a W. E. Jones either. So who is W. E. Jones? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 14:57, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • W.E. Jones did play for Neath, before and after the war, and in 1946 was part of the Neath team that lost to the touring Kiwis. In that match (which Thomas did not play in), Jones scored 9 of Neath's points losing 22-15. I don't think he was capped at full intenational level, and he wasn't one of the three Neath players to appear in one of the 'victory internationals' either.
