A request for confirmation
[edit]This is not my request. An anonymous editor left this request on the article page so I'm moving it here where it belongs. - Dravecky 22:02, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Added as request for update: On occasion, Mr. Birnes has made claims to be an attorney, but no record of a "Birnes" can be located in the California State Bar Association database. Although one website bio it does show that William J. Birnes was attending Concord University Law School, an internet based (online) school, studying for a J.D. Another website does have a J.D. after his name. Maybe someone could confirm if Birnes is actually an attorney, or not and update this page. - from the main page by an anonymous editor
Re-wrote "credibility questioned" entry
[edit]I re-wrote this entry as it was misleading and omited key facts. The reference listed goes to an eSkeptic article writen by the alleged hoaxers themselves. Unless someone can come up with a neutral reference calling Mr. Birnes' credibility into question, I'd recommend deleting this entry outright, as it appears that they are the only people making this claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kt'Hyla (talk • contribs) 05:51, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Bill Birnes Academic Credentials
[edit]It would be nice to see some confirmation of Bill Birnes' academic credentials.
What degree was`he granted by what institution in what discipline.
To me, he seems like a shaky showman whose every representation ought to be examined carefully for accuracy.
It is claimed he has a "law degree" but no institution is named. It is claimed he has a PhD... but neither institution nor discipline is mentioned.
Since he is forever holding himself out as an "expert" it might be useful to know if his credentials are real... and. if real, if they in any way are meaningful to his alleged expertise in UFOs.
Certainly a law degree of any sort is totally irrelevant to this endeavor.
Since he has an interest in selling his magazine... he also might have an interest in over- or mis-stating his qualifications.

On Coast to Coast AM it states that he "received his Ph.D. from New York University in 1974 while he was an Instructor of English at Trenton State College in New Jersey where he taught structural linguistics and historical linguistics as well as literature and writing." http://www.coasttocoastam.com/guest/birnes-william-j/6366

Surely Coast to Coast AM is not a solid enough source for this information? As he is co-author of the book cited in footnote #1 as a source for this information, that source is also unreliable. --P123cat1 (talk) 07:51, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]My interest in the subject resides with the title individuals proported authority with regards to UFO's, of which my position is of course neutral in that it is objective, with a bias toward the subject individual legitimizing the study of UFO's.
