Claimed ancient origins
[edit]A local history book from the 1800s is not a reliable source for an 800 year genealogical descent. Further, the cited source is imprecise. "...tracing back their relationship to William the Conqueror" is meaningless, grammatically. It could imply that they trace a descent from William the Conqueror, it could be referring to 'back to the time of William the Conqueror'. This source [1] says of the Cox family "came over with William the Conqueror", which is more akin to the second than to the first. Such a descent, even were it true, was part and parcel of 19th century historiography of which the source is an example, but is not what modern historians consider noteworthy, DYK notwithstanding.
