I am expanding this article somewhat and including full citations. I accordingly removed the "needs additional citations" template. I dropped the following sentence because I could find no support for it anywhere (although it is certainly consistent with the rest of the article): "Following the American Civil War, he raised funds for Black schools the South, including Morehouse College."
