[edit]Re ancestry of William G.D.Worthington IV
There is currently NO known proof that Captain John Worthington was the son of Francis Worthington (bap. 1624, d. 1668)of Manchester by his wife Sarah Byrom (bap. 1624, d. 1668)- NOT Byron. That Francis and Sarah had a son, John (bap.1651) is not disputed. Francis was a son of Roger W (d. 1649)by his 2nd wife, Katharine Haywood (bap. 1587, d. 1651), whom he m. in 1611-2.Roger's 1st wife was Margaret Platt (d. 1611), by whom he had 3 children (bap. in 1604, 1607 and 1609). Roger could NOT therefore have been born in 1593!! Roger was NOT the son of Thomas Worthington and Agnes Gillibrand, who m. at Chorley, Lancs, on ... July 1595.They did have,as their 3rd son, Roger ... but he was later of Rufford, Lancs.(Thomas was bap. at Standish, Lancs, on 13 Feb 1562-3, and was buried at Standish on 28 Dec 1626 - Agnes being buried less than a month later, on 22 Jan 1626-7.) Thomas Worthington was the eldest son and heir of Christopher W, who m. Alice Holcroft of Holcroft, co. Lancs.
Your informant of William G.D. Worthington's ancestry has made (a) an assumption re Captain John's parentage [which it WOULD, nevertheless, be nice to prove!]and (b) definite errors over the antecedents of Roger Worthington. 83.59.89.162 17:54, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
