William Falconer, the recorder of Chester, seems to have been the fourth son of James Falconer and Mary Dalmahoy of the Ratho family, who married in Edinburgh in February 1681, which, as the surname suggests, would place his ancestry as Scots - probably emigre Episcopalian after 1689.
