That coat of arms is wrong
[edit]It has a bend sinister on it. It was not a part of William of Nithsdale's armorial and was, I have to suppose, added by someone who thought that it should be added because he was a bastard. Of course, that is erroneous. The bend sinister is merely a bend that goes from the upper right to the lower left of a coat of arms. Using it to represent bastardy was an invention by Sir Walter Scott. I have seen his coat of arms and it did not have a bend sinister. However, I do not have a good illustration of it to replace that with. I will try to find one. 50.38.5.187 (talk) 03:46, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
