Date of Birth
[edit]The old DNB (1892) gives Coxe's date of birth as 7 March 1747. This date can also be found in a biographical portrait published during Coxe's lifetime and in his obituary as published in Gentlemen's Magazine 1st ser., 98/2 (1828), 86–9. Since Jeremy Knight, who wrote the new entry in the ODNB (2004), knew these sources and also cites the parish register, St George's, Hanover Square, I assume he is correct in giving 6 March 1748 as Coxe's date of birth. The older sources nonetheless note that March 7th is O.S.. Since it makes sense that this can easily be overlooked, I applied OldStyleDate. OS also explains why occassionally Coxe's date of birth is given as March 18th. -- Assayer (talk) 22:26, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
