Orphaned references in William Byrd I
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of William Byrd I's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 01:57, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
Jewish ancestry?
[edit]I read on a genealogical site that the Birds were goldsmiths of Sephardic Jewish ancestry. Any truth in this or is this just another example of people searching to discover a genetic line back to Jesus in the wake of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code?--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 16:29, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Wife's name
[edit]I've done some tweaking. From what I can see, his wife's name was Mary and this is listed on her tombstone. It's also listed in several RS as Mary. I can't really find anything that uses "Maria" other than Find-A-Grave, which isn't usable as a reliable source because it's edited by random people. I think that they might be thinking of Maria Horsmanden Byrd, the daughter of William Byrd III. If anyone can show that this was a nickname used by the family it can be re-added, but we'd need a really reliable source that predates this Wikipedia article. The Library of Virginia doesn't have the nickname in the article about William Byrd I and they're usually fairly good about including that in articles even if the article isn't about that specific person. - It's also likely that they were thinking of the wife of William Byrd II, who was named Maria but did not carry the Horsmanden name. Tokyogirl79LVA (talk) 13:13, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
Portrait
[edit]Not sure where the portrait for this article came from but it is obvious this is not an early portrait of William Byrd I. The hair and clothing suggest a date of around c.1750. 71.226.96.118 (talk) 20:53, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
