I'd like to mention that the section on Chief Badders' Navy and Marine Corp Medal, while technically correct, is worded awkwardly. The Navy and Marine Corp Medal was created in 1942, well after the actions that Chief Badders was awarded for. At the time in question, he actually received four letters of commendation for four separate acts of heroism over the course of 16 years. The fourth of which was dated 27 December, 1940. [[1]]

However, in creating the Navy and Marine Corp medal, U.S. Code § 8296 permits any person awarded a letter of commendation for heroism, before August 7, 1942, to be awarded the medal regardless the date of the act of heroism.

I'm not sure of the clearest, most efficient way to explain that. Or even if it's necessary to do so. But his medal citation explains that he got the medal in lieu of letters of commendations, and not the acts for which he was being commended. And simply quoting the medal citation has led to more questions than answers(at least, it did for me.) InhumaneRiver (talk) 01:02, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
