I asked my father, a Wilkie born in Perth area, about the Wilkie myth and his reponse was:

'S true that they called the spirit of a burial mound a wilkie in the far north of Scotland. But not at all similar to bigfoot. More like a barrow wight, I'd say. And would not be surprised if derived from Indo-European word for 'wolf': *vilku.

He also has not heard/seen a Wilkie tartan. It would be nice to dig that up, if it's not a typo.

It was this Wilkey's understanding that while the Wilkies/Wilkeys have claim to, or a right to wear, the MacDonald tartan (being a part of that clan), the sept itself has not had a separate tartan. Further, it was my understanding that Wilkie was the Scots diminutive of William.

Not a German last name, only Scottish
