Quote by Wihtred

[edit]

There's a quote by Wihtred here that may be useful within the laws section. HansHermans 00:08, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I can't tell from the attribution, but it looks like it might be a translation of part of this. I'll do some more digging and see if I can find more about this. Thanks for the link. Mike Christie (talk) 10:37, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ecgberht's death

[edit]

I'm a Spanish user (so sorry for my English) and I'm trasnlating the article to Spanish. I've found a posible mistake but I prefer to ask before. The article says that Ecgberht died in 675 but in his own article appears tha he died in 673 that is more consistent with the facts. Thanks. --Millars (talk) 12:08, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article says Ecgberht died in 673; can you point to where it says 675? Mike Christie (talk) 12:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In the first sentence of "Kent in the late seventh century" section. --Millars (talk) 00:44, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It says "The dominant force in late seventh-century politics south of the River Humber was Wulfhere of Mercia, who reigned from the late 650s to 675. The king of Kent for much of this time was Ecgberht, who died in 673." It's Wulfhere who died in 675; Ecgberht died in 673. So I'm still not clear what the problem is. Mike Christie (talk) 01:03, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ups, It's ok, it was a terrible confusion with the names, sorry. --Millars (talk) 17:43, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

name of son

[edit]

His third sons name was Alric not Ælfric. See [1] Chapter XXIII

These are names are not equivalent to each other. Since this article is featured I'm giving a warning before I change it. Kjhskj75 (talk) 20:51, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I checked a couple of sources and I agree. It looks like this is an error that's been here for many years; it predates the work that was done to feature the article. Since this error is in a lot of places (including other language wikis) I'd like to wait and see if anyone has some reason for the Ælfric spelling. I'll post a note at WT:Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms as well. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 02:09, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They are completely different names ie: one is not just a variant of the other.
Ælf - ric = Elf ruler
Al - ric = Noble regal ruler Wilfridselsey (talk) 10:11, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Query

[edit]

The third son is shown as Ælfric in the text and Alric in the infobox. Dudley Miles (talk) 22:16, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have to look at the sources for this, if not tonight then tomorrow. I evidently forgot to come back to this -- see the section above. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 22:49, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Now fixed; I don't have access to the ODNB, but Bede, the other source, shows "Alric", and that's where the link goes from the only instance of Ælfric, so this appears to be just a mistake of some kind. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:31, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
