Content
[edit]Are sports and athletits the only things that are important in this school? Does it not teach any mainstream academic subjects? --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:18, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Structure, References and Reliable Sources
[edit]I have read through this piece several times and can only find details of extra-curricula activities. See WP:WPSCH/AG#OS for what should be included. We don't normally detail the careers of individual members of staff- and we don't use made up words, such as "winningest". Our sources are verifiable, and notable. We try to make our work universal, and putage conversions for Americanisms such as "grade". The article was tagged in 2014 as missing vital sections such as governance, buildings and curriculum. Could someone who is familiar with the building fill in these sections, as the article is going to be be very short when the deletions mentioned above have happened. Do read the WP:WPSCH guidelines in full as there seems to be little understanding on what is required, and it is all in there. --ClemRutter (talk) 08:16, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
Alumni photos
[edit]To User:Rockchalk717, in general, high school articles shouldn't include photos of alumni...
- Alumni aren't the primary topic of a school article. If the article was "List of Alumni of School Name", then photos would be fine, because the primary topic of an alumni article is actually the alumni!
- Alumni after they graduate isn't the primary topic of a school article, thus post graduation photos shouldn't be included. Though it might be arguable to include photos of them while at the school before they graduate, since that is a school related topic.
- if we start adding alumni photos, then it causes issues of whom to include. Why should one person be included instead of another person, and so on. Why should sports players rank higher than other graduates with other professions? Why should one editors choice of which photos to include is a better choice than another persons choice or some other persons choice??
- Alumni photos in short articles can cause article layout issues. This is true of all wiki articles.
- Alumni photos in short articles can have "undo weight" of the photo content compared to the main article. This is true of adding too many photos into any short wiki article.
- It's possible I might have forgot to include other reasons too...

Addressing issues brought up on this talkpage
[edit]1. The number 1 issue I have with some the comments on this talkpage is I'm noticing a lot of what amounts to complaining about content on the page but only one person with a post on this talkpage has edited this page within a few months of their post. If you have a few minutes to complain on about content on this talkpage, you have a few minutes to fix the issue you're complaining about.
2. Someone made a comment about this school only caring about athletics. I take GREAT offense to this comment as an alumni of Wichita South. Not to mention, I don't see the purpose of talking about "mainstream subjects" as every school in the US teaches math, history, science, etc and from what I understand, Wichita South doesn't have anything special about their main curriculum and hasn't since my sister who attended the school in the late 90s went there.
3. This article doesn't use very many "Americanisms" as someone called them. There's a couple, but why should we go out of our way in the one sentence that says "grades 9-12" when the United Kingdom calls these years in school "Year 10-13"? Doesn't make any sense to do that. The only other instance is the one or times football is used. I've actually had other editors revert me calling football "American football". This same editor called "winningest" a made up word. Winningest is very clearly a word. Argue with Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster, not me. Type the word in your phone too, mine recognizes it, yours probably does too.
4. Some of the specific content people are asking to be included is in the history section. That has the history of the buildings for the school. It also mentions the fire science program, which is uncommon in Wichita schools. Adding a separate section for information already included in the article seems highly unnecessary. Additionally, curriculum sections in my opinion are overrated sections for schools. Not to mention, with "certain issues" in school curriculums specifically in red states like Kansas, it can very easily and unintentionally get political. I personally am not going to do that because I'm afraid my personal (and pretty strong opinions) about that issue will get in the way. If someone else wants to add this information, feel free to add it. The school's website might be a good place to start. The local newspaper is called the Wichita Eagle if you wanna find something through them.
5. Issues have been mentioned in the past about the athletics section. I've removed the excess detail about individual sports and coaches. I also removed the one alumni without a page since he doesn't meet notability requirements.
If you have any questions about the school and want to reach out to someone familiar with the school, as I mentioned earlier I am an alumni of this school, please reach out on my talkpage.--Rockchalk717 18:04, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
