Middle Class
[edit]I know it's a fairly academic issue, but are they really middle class? Jim's a retired toilet cleaner. 86.151.129.151 (talk) 03:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's right, good point. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 15:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- They may be considered working middle class. 96.63.27.104 (talk) 08:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Copyedit
[edit]Okay, I've done a major copyedit (including removing the link to YouTube - it's a copyright violation and if people really want to find it on the 'net, I'm sure they will). I've tagged the claim "Many animators of the film have also gone on to work on major films such as A Goofy Movie, Balto, Open Season, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Prince of Egypt, The Land Before Time and The Thief and the Cobbler" for citation - "many" is a pretty woolly term, and this sort of assertion could really do with some supporting evidence ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 11:33, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Production Techniques
[edit]The article introduction describes the production methodology without references and possibly inaccurately. I've seen the film; neither the home interior nor the household objects appear to have been photographed as claimed, even where a scene does progress through a sequence of still pictures. Instead, about 45 seconds of police/military activity filmed from life occurs at the very beginning, which then segues into the animation. I'm not sufficiently expert on these matters to give an authoritative statement on how this movie was made, but I'm pretty convinced it's a cartoon through and through. A nice one to boot! Age rating
[edit]The movie's naive drawing style looks as if made for younger children. In Germany the age rating is 6, supporting this view. What is the UK and international rating? How was the film intended and marketed? The extensive dialogue with lots of cultural and political puns and references seems directed at adults. There are youth books from the same period with similar graphic and shocking depictions of apocalyptic nuclear scenarios, which led to debates whether these are suited for kids or youths, on a cognitive as well as emotional level. (I myself saw this film at age 8 and couldn't stand watching the last third.) Has this movie seen similar discussions, and should they be mentioned in the article?
Someone may want to add this
[edit]When the Wind Blows clearly inspired the https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/morten-morlands-times-cartoon-august-11-2022-3l3mtbp90 Times of London editorial cartoon of Aug 11, 2022, which dealt with the UK's energy crisis. 174.93.238.165 (talk) 11:34, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- That's a reference to the book though not the film and created because Raymond Briggs had just died. 92.16.218.112 (talk) 13:43, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
