- In Wikipedia, we organize things (such as companies) based on what they are, not what they are called (see (WP:NAD). So that is the question, did Westinghouse, the corporate entity, end, or did it go on? Your sources don't answer the question, they don't seem to cover this at all, some don't even mention Westinghouse. The article claims "1999 – CBS acquired by Viacom, marking the end of the original Westinghouse Corporation", but its unreferenced. So we need to sort out whether these are different entities and therefor different articles. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 18:28, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- We understand that the company history is complex and somewhat confusing, and that some of our previous sources did not completely explain our suggested improvement edits to the Wiki page accurately. Here are additional references to prove that are suggestions are correct:
- • Successor: CBS Corporation
- • Removal of CBS as Subsidiaries

- Above each article the improvements that the source explains are listed. Sydneylit (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:27, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
We don't add material/make changes based on primary source documents (see WP:PST). There seems to be ample secondary sources that are contrary to the edits you want to make. You need to cite secondary sources that explain it better. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 14:56, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
While the changes that we are proposing are arguably based on primary source documents, Wikipedia’s policy expressly permits primary sources that “have been reputably published” (See Wikipedia:No original research). In each case, the source materials are documents contemporaneously filed with the SEC by authorized officers of the relevant companies in accordance with the requirements of the Security Exchange Act of 1934. Certainly, these sources are reputable. Additionally, these sources materials are used to support indisputable facts – i.e., that Westinghouse Electric Corporation changed its name to CBS Corporation; that CBS merged with Viacom Inc. and that Viacom changed its name to CBS Corporation. Accordingly, Wikipedia permits their use as “straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further specialized knowledge.” (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Identifying_and_using_primary_sources)Sydneylit (talk) 11:59, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- If you are trying to make a claim that a current company is the same entity as a previous company, you need secondary sourcing on that, you can't supply your own primary WP:OR. Also, again, Wikipedia is not a dictionary (WP:NAD), we list things by what they are, physically, not by what they are called. Now I noticed www.westinghouse.com does not belong in this article, it looks like its not the same company. It could be we need another article, re we have: Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Westinghouse Electric Company, Westinghouse Licensing Corporation.... maybe we need Westinghouse Electric Corporation (1999). Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 19:16, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- Since our previous sourcing is not being accepted for the changes we are making, we will cite the Westinghouse Electric Company Wikipedia profile, Westinghouse Electric Company, for our suggested edits listed above as they are correctly stated and cited on the given page from secondary sources.
- On the Westinghouse Electric Company page, it explains that the “company formed in 1998 from the nuclear power division of the original Westinghouse Electric Corporation”. Therefore, our proposed edits for the summary text box of removing ‘Defunct’ as its Fate, as well as removing Westinghouse Electric Company and Westinghouse Licensing Corporation as Successors is correct.
- Furthermore, in the Westinghouse Electric Company page’s History section, it is stated that the “Westinghouse Electric Corporation still exists, mainly for the purpose of licensing, as a subsidiary of CBS Corp.”. This validates our other claims of the Fate being Merged instead of Dissolved, removal of Viacom as Owner and deleting CBS as a Subsidiary. From the CBS Corporation Wikipedia page History section, CBS Corporation, “The CBS Corporation name would be revived for one of the companies” which explains why CBS Corporation should be listed as the Successor.
- Lastly, the Westinghouse Electric Company page also states that this specific company is headquartered in Cranberry, not Westinghouse Electric Corporation a separate company which reinstates our removal of Cranberry Township as the headquarters.
- Sydneylit (talk) 18:02, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- We are reverting the recent changes back to our previous suggestions given above since an anonymous user has incorrectly changed the information in the summary text box and did not submit these requests in the talk page section. Sydneylit (talk) 13:24, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

In aim to update the History section of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Wikipedia page due to factual inaccuracy of the stated information, here are the proposed edits as followed in bold:
Early on, Westinghouse was a rival to Thomas Edison's electric company. In 1892, Edison was merged with Westinghouse's chief AC rival, the Thomson-Houston Electric Company, making an even bigger competitor, General Electric. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company changed its name to Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1945.
Westinghouse purchased CBS Inc. in 1995 and became CBS Corporation in 1997 . Westinghouse Electric Corporation changed its name to and became CBS Corporation in 1997. .
In 1998, CBS established a brand-licensing subsidiary Westinghouse Licensing Corporation (Westinghouse Electric Corporation). Between 1997 and
In 1998, the Power Generation Business Unit, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, was sold to Siemens AG, of Germany. A year later, CBS sold all of its commercial nuclear power businesses to British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL).
Soon after, BNFL gained license rights on In connection with that sale, certain rights to use the Westinghouse trademarks were granted to the newly formed BNFL subsidiary, the Westinghouse trademarks and they used those to reorganize their acquired assets as Westinghouse Electric Company . That company was sold to Toshiba in 2006.[3]
