Flyover completed
[edit]I'm told by friends in Geelong construction of the "controversial" flyover is complete. This article may be in need of updating. -- Longhair\talk 08:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Done - I just need to sort though my construction shots, and go get some ones of how it looks now. I'm just bummed I didn't get shots of the remnants of the tram depot before it went back in 2005 or so. Wongm (talk) 11:07, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a heap. Where was the tram depot? -- Longhair\talk 11:11, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- The track went in from Brougham Street, between Blakistons and the power station, the archway and sign for it are still there but to hole is blanked off (the big door here). The depot itself was behind there, a few tracks wide. It got pulled down when the centre was built. The bit that did remain was a big brick building / warehouse on the southwest corner of Corio and Yarra Streets that was the paint shop, trams crossed Corio Street to get in. In the part few years it was an empty block of land used for a carpark after the SEC moved out and Westfield bought it. I took notes from History of the Geelong Tramways 1912-1956 by David J.O'Neil a while back, just haven't got around to doing anything with them - Trams in Geelong links are scattered around... - Well I never knew that much detail. Thanks a heap again. Must push the grandmother for some more information next time I'm down :) I'm trying my hardest to remember the area. Wasn't the Geelong branch of the RSL also nearby many moons ago before moving to Belmont? Perhaps across the road? -- Longhair\talk 11:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- It was where the Four Points hotel is now - in Geelong - The First 150 Years it scores a mention, IIRC it used to be a tennis club when first built. The book is a compendium of historical Geelong Advertiser articles, one a day they published back in the 1990. Wongm (talk) 11:52, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- You've done some wonderful work for the Geelong related articles since you arrived. If I've never thanked you for it consider me doing so now :) Any information you have handy on Hi-Lite Park would be an added bonus. It's a shame I don't get back to Geelong more often these days. I think I'll grab a copy of that book myself next time I'm local. Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 11:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
