Non-notable band

[edit]

To whomever added the info about the band Wet Screams, sorry but I felt that info was not necessary to this article and deleted it. If the band does gain popularity and sign a major label record deal at some point, yes, feel free to add that info. However, as it stands right now, the band members are not notable residents of the City of Westbrook. Dr StrangeHat 14:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wet Screams is just a mediocre punk band who plays in basements. Any further mentions of them in this article shoul be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.244.64.114 (talk) 17:53, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Westbrook

Should Colonel Thomas Westbrook be added to the list of notable former residents? RWIR (talk) 05:16, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Grave of Joseph Pride

[edit]

The site of the Grave of Joseph Pride above Highland Lake just off Prides Farm Road gets a short shrift here. It is a real piece of history when you understand what happened.

In 1649 Oliver Cromwell and cohorts which included Thomas Pride beheaded Charles the first in a pivotal event in British History. It was the death of the absolute Monarchy. After Cromwell's death the Royalists came to power again in the form of Charles the second. They proceeded to hang, draw and quarter the body of the deceased Oliver Cromwell and all his followers they could find who were still alive. Thomas Pride, a signatory of Charles's Death Warrant, was dead himself by this time (See Prides Purge) but his son, Joseph, had also been deeply involved in the revolution. Chased by Red Coats hot on his heels, he ran down the pier and jumped into the water and swam for the last longboat to the ship sailing for America. He ultimately settled in Prides Corner.

Prides Corner is more than just a Drive in Theater, it is the home of the son of the Man who killed the King. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DanPride (talkcontribs) 04:15, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting story, but needs citation. I'm removing the entry until it can be sourced.Wkharrisjr (talk) 12:56, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the story is public record. You can easily find the Graves by asking anyone around Highland lake, the dates are appropriate. Unfortunately a fire destroyed many of the local records some years ago. His great great grandson shows up in the first census by George Washington as an adult. (I have a copy if you want one) The part about swimming for the boat may or may not be cited somewhere, I am not sure. It is however a strong Oral History that spans almost all branches of the descendants of Joseph Pride, of which I am one. I heard it from my father who heard it from his etc.etc. I have heard it from other descendants whom I did not even have any idea they existed. It is the "how we got here" Oral tradition that at a minimum you can date by figuring out the branch dates within the family. It may well be recorded somewhere (Britain?), however given the attitude of the royalists at the time... there could have been good reason to be discrete for some years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.224.72.232 (talk) 05:09, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
