Hello - I am looking to update the West Pharmaceutical Services Wikipedia page on behalf of Green Room Communications, an agency that works with West. Below, I've listed requested edits, explanations, and links where possible for these suggested changes and for your consideration. I have broken down suggested changes according to sections. To confirm next steps, the proposed changes submitted sought to provide the most recent metrics about West Pharmaceutical Services’ current earnings, revenue and employees. This company information is available publicly online in the Annual Report 2018, which is the reference type that is used currently on the West Wikipedia page (please see reference #1, Annual Report 2011). Given that annual reports are public disclosures of validated company information and West’s annual report was used as a reference in the past, would this source still be applicable to these proposed changes?

Similarly, the secondary sources provided such as ANI, Packaging South Asia, Street Insider, Pharmaceutical Technology, Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry, The Times of Israel, and Israel 21 C are factual in nature and maintain a neutral, objective point of view. Would we also remove these sources from our request?

We have reviewed the English Wikipedia pages of companies within West Pharmaceutical Services’ industry such as Gerresheimer, Becton Dickinson, and Stevanto Group. These pages also contain references to annual reports, links to pages on the company’s websites (e.g., the references on Stevanto Group’s page are primarily only links from the company’s website) and press releases. Can you provide clarity as to why those references are included on those pages, but the primary sources provided for West need revisions? We want to ensure we are approaching correctly and respecting your time.

Hello, This is a continuation of a previous thread. I am with Green Room Communications, a communications agency working under contract for West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. We have several questions from ongoing correspondence that have still not been answered by Wikipedia and request a reply.

First, does Wikipedia have a customer service PHONE NUMBER where we may speak with an editor? Online correspondence does not seem to be fully effective in conveying West's editing request needs and there is a communication disconnect. Please advise so we can find a timely resolution.

Information To Be Added or Removed / Explanation of Issue:

Our requested edit to the West company descriptor in the Introductory Section: "West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging components and delivery systems for injectable drugs and healthcare products" was rejected as synonymous with existing copy. It is NOT. The word "injectable" is a key differentiator of West's business. They do NOT work across all formats of pharmaceutical drugs, ONLY injectables. We request that this language as proposed initially is reconsidered and accepted.

References Supporting Change: N/A; overview, West’s differentiator as a manufacturer of systems for injectable drug delivery is cited in the current “Overview” sentence, first sentence.


Additionally, we would like clarity on the following feedback:

In the Overview section, we recognize that some of the boilerplate phrasing may be deemed promotional and can strip that. However, you also rejected very factual information such as West's geographic location and data around how many products it manufactures. Please advise why this particular information is being rejected. If the rationale is because of sources, we then ask for clarity on why publicly available, factual company background from an Annual Report (2018) is not acceptable.

However, we would like to propose the following changes in the “Overview” section that is objective and unbiased, in alignment with Wikipedia’s promotion policy and using the credible Annual Report source.

Information To Be Added or Removed: After the sentence “West manufactures components and systems for injectable drug delivery and plastic packaging, and delivery system components for the healthcare and consumer products markets”, please add: “West is headquartered in Exton, Pennsylvania, and the company generates revenue in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.[1] In 2018, the company reported $1.7 billion in net sales[2] and the company manufactures approximately 112 million components and devices every day. [3]

Explanation of Issue: Proposed edits apply factual and objective information from West’s 2018 Annual Report about where the company generates revenue as well as the inclusion of up-to-date metrics on net sales and daily manufacturing of products.

  1. The word "injectable" has been added to the lead.
  2. The revenue figure and number of devices manufactured has been added to the overview section.
  3. Wikipedia itself does not have a phone number where it can be reached. Portions of Wikipedia, such as the Wikimedia Foundation, ostensibly do have physical phone numbers that can be dialed. But requests made there to change content on Wikipedia will be directed to this location — that is, the talk page of the article in question.
  4. There are email addresses which can be used to contact Wikipedia, specifically the Open-source Ticket Request System (OTRS). But please be aware that requests made to OTRS to change content will invariably be directed to this location — again, the talk page of the article in question — which is the proper place to suggest changes to content.
