Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on West African Craton. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Peer Review: West African Craton

[edit]

Hi, I reviewed the entire page as I had difficulty determining what was new and what was older. Some of my comments may not apply to your work. Here are some suggestions...

Grammar Watch sentence structure. For example, "As it cooled the lithosphere, consisting of the crust and the rigid uppermost part of the mantle solidified". Suggest - "As it cooled, the lithosphere consisting of the crust and the rigid, uppermost part of the mantle solidified."

Avoid referring to subject matter as "they" or "these". For example, "At that time, the Congo Craton lay to the west of the Amazonia Craton, and the West African Craton lay to the south of them (rotated about 180°, they retain this relative configuration.)" Suggest - "During that time period, the Congo Craton lay to the west of the Amazonia Craton, and the West African Carton was located to the south of both the Congo and Amazonia Cratons. Rotated approximately 180°, the three cratons retain their relative configuration."

Citations Suggest locating new references to replace the existing references 3, 6, 8. These references appear to be questionable. Check references 5, 10 it does not appear to point to another page. Check references 7, 14 appear to point to a page other than the one intended. Check references 12, 13 these are 404. Check reference 15 the domain name has expired. Several of the references are older, if possible, suggest updating references.

Location and Composition, and Wanderings headings Suggest two headings - Composition and Location, and moving some of the information. For example, move "The West African Craton underlies the modern countries of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and Benin." to the new Location section. Also, Features could potentially be moved to Composition.

Snowball Theory Suggest avoiding the wording "The proponents of". Also, is there another theory? If so, what is it? This may be considered biased. Is there a way to provide balance?

Features Suggest expanding the introduction. Watch sentence structure "During its wanderings, at different times covered by ice sheets, forests, marshes or arid desert, the surface of the West African Craton has been heavily eroded by ice, water and wind." Suggest - "During its wanderings, the West African Craton was covered by a range of ecosystems from ice sheets to forests, marshes and arid desert. As a result, ice, water and wind eroded the craton's surface."

If possible, suggest combining or expanding any of the sections with less than three sentences.

The numerous links and graphics assist with explaining the concepts; very helpful to the reader. Also, the graphics add colour to the page without being distracting. Leogirrrl (talk) 00:05, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, sorry I did not see your peer review (they were supposed to be posted in the talk sections of the user's sandbox). I have since read over your input and have taken it into considering with my current editing. In addition, at the time of your comments I had yet to update the page with my added information because we were not yet supposed to do that according to the project timeline. I found your review helpful, but would have greatly appreciated it if it were posted in the correct area to use when updating my draft. Thank you very much for the help. Article Update - Spring 2018

[edit]

I have moved and edited my writing from my Sandbox to improve the article (based on a school assignment). This includes previously there sections (adding details), creating new sections, and adding a geological timescale of the overall region. Please contact me for any issues with the changes and updates, or my partner HPokrandt on his respective updates from his writing. SailorJupiter4 (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
