Bus services have always used Wellington?
[edit] Resolved
The statement that:
Bus services, from when they commenced in Perth, have always used Wellington Street as part of bus routes.
is demonstrably false - the green CAT does not currently use it according to the Transperth map. We could just say "most buses", but do we have a reference? Any other suggestions as to how the sentence could be reworded so that it is true, but not so vague as to be meaningless? Mitch Ames (talk) 11:25, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Definitely dubious, buses going up Fitzgerald Street use the bus bridge from the end of James Street over Roe Street and the railway, and previously used a level crossing adjacent to Roe Street. It could perhaps be reworded to "Many bus route use Wellington Street to access the Wellington Street Bus Station, located next to the Perth Railway Station." Or maybe just remove the bit about the buses – isn't it kind of obvious that buses go to a bus station? - Evad37 [talk] 00:10, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
for you guys maybe
- It has absolutely nothing to do with cat servicves, it was meant to refer to the fact that historically it - that is some part of the full length of wellington street, it has always been used as a bus route, nothing to do with truth or falsity, nothing to do with recent stuff - as I just didnt provide a set of refs from a whole range of decades re the bus services. Meaning and etc would have been easily findable in trove, however seeing no one bothered the deletion was appropriate, unless aomeone has bus timetables from the 20s 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s to prove me wrong (and I tell you the routes were described meticulously in the 30s to deal with the then Transport regulation board requirements) otherwise the claim is verifiable, just a small trawl through trove could have provided adequate quaint items. satusuro 11:18, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- So it was a misinterpretation. If/when refs are found, it should be worded more clearly so the intended meaning is not misunderstood. Something like "Since the commencement of bus services in Perth in <year>, Wellington Street has been used as a part of bus routes" – avoiding the misinterpretation of a claim that all bus routes from Perth use Wellington Street - Evad37 [talk] 12:13, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

- The CAT service was an example (quick and easy to find a ref with a map) demonstrating that the quoted statement is not true for "all" bus services. I know it didn't say "all", but as originally worded it was fairly vague - so vague as to be
meaninglessredundant given that preceding sentence mentioned a bus station. As Evad37 pointed out - if there's a bus station on Wellington St it's fairly obvious that buses will use Wellington St. Of course there might not always have been a bus station, and the buses might have run along Welllington before the station was there, so the sentence might add some value - but it would need rewording (and a reference). Mitch Ames (talk) 12:18, 5 January 2014 (UTC) - bad example and a misread. I meant to do with 50 years before the bus station. As I said all it would take is a quick check on trove satusuro 12:21, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

- According to the Public Transport Authority's History page, the first buses (1890s, horse-drawn) operated "in and out of the city via Hay and Barrack Streets" - no mention of Wellington. According to the Perth Electric Tramway Society "In 1933 a trolleybus service was established ... running via Wellington St ... - the first permanent trolleybus system in Australia." Mitch Ames (talk) 12:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- The Public Transport Authority's history may only be of themselves, but buses appear to pre-date 1890s; a search through Trove will find plenty of references to buses in Perth before then, eg [1][2]. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:54, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- good - add it to the article!!!! good work!!
- you have done it in the reverse order - I would never trust govt authorities history of themselves...(I would have gone to trove and ignored pta or pets online material) but take care the word omnibus and usage in horse drawn carriages is a minefield - I simply was intending to indicate motorised non horse varieties - which i have been finding out about at sro over time... specifically in the 20s and 30s... anyways good to see someone else can find stuf as well - put it in satusuro 15:43, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
