More refs to external sources
[edit]I re-instated some of User:Mr_Bluefin's deletions. I added external references to support the argument that since someone not directly connected with the school (eg NZ Trade and Entrerprise, TVNZ, Royal Society of NZ) had recognised these things they probably worth noting. - That's cool :D I support the inclusion of sourced/linked external (i.e. non-school/school-related) recognition 100%. Mr Bluefin 11:56, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Removal of bad press
[edit]Hi all. Just hoping to get some guidance on this edit. Is it balanced to include those mentions of people consuming alcohol at lunch time and on a school trip? Or do you think it overshadows the whole article? — Ballofstring (talk) 21:28, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Requested move 13 November 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
(non-admin closure) The result of the move request was: page moved. There is consensus that the new name complies with WP:NCNZ and WP:COMMADIS. ∰Bellezzasolo✡ Discuss 17:21, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Wellington High School (New Zealand) → Wellington High School, New Zealand – According to our naming conventions, we use a comma rather than ellipses for disambiguation, and we use the city that the school is located in rather than "New Zealand". Problem is that there are a number of towns and cities around the world called Wellington so the city name by itself isn't sufficient and further disambiguation is needed. It doesn't seem logical to have "Wellington" as both the school's name and as part of the disambiguation (e.g. "Wellington High School, Wellington, New Zealand"). We can't use the name of the region either as it's the same as the city. I think the most sensible way around this problem is to simply drop the city name from the dab and use the country name for disambiguation only (in contravention of our naming conventions) but use a comma instead of ellipses. Schwede66 17:51, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- I've just seen that Cambridge High School (New Zealand) has the exact same problem. Maybe if this gets resolved without much fuss we apply the same solution to that school. Schwede66 17:56, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- And Inglewood High School (New Zealand) needs similar attention. We do have the option of applying the region's name to Cambridge and Inglewood, though. Schwede66 18:02, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes you could just move the other 2 once this RM is successful, or flag it as a multi-move, it doesn't matter much either way. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:03, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support Per WP:COMMADIS. New Zealand, rather then Wellington (or Wellington Region) for the same reason that we use Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire, not Newark Castle, Newark-on-Trent, even though places unquestionably located in a larger settlement use "Place, Larger settlement" by default to disambiguate. And yes per WP:PRECISE it should not be to Wellington High School, Wellington, New Zealand as that would suggest that there is another in NZ. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:03, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:COMMADIS is about place names not institution names and WP:NCNZ is similarly place name focused. Comma disambiguation gives a misleading impression that something is actually called that, comma and suffix et al. The current disambiguation works far better. Timrollpickering 19:18, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Timrollpickering: you might want to have another look at WP:NCNZ as item 4 specifically mentions schools. I know that the New Zealand conventions are different to other conventions but we are discussing the naming of a NZ school; this is not the place to discuss the NZ conventions in general. Schwede66 05:49, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Yes, we use comma disambiguation for locations and buildings in most Commonwealth countries (NZ included). -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:46, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Comma separation is the dominant styling for places. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:51, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
History
[edit]I have edited the History section working to clarify the different institutions and their names. At some stage I will create new articles which can add more detail to the history of the Wellington College of Design (later the Wellington Technical School), the Wellington School of Design and the Wellington Polytechnic (which is currently in the Massey University article). Discussion about new article structure welcome since they are intertwined. Pakoire (talk) 03:14, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
