History
[edit]Weissmann began as a German name meaning Linnen Maker, or a maker of sheets.
There appears to be two distinct groups holding this name, Jews and Gentiles. One likely explanation is that during a series of North African Jewish emigrations to Budapest and Romania, Jews with the name Vaysman adopted the name Weissman in order to assimilate into the society. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwdwone (talk • contribs) 01:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
