True, Hindraf is about the rights of Hindus in Malaysia. But, which Hindus? Answer to that would be Tamils in Malaysia of Indian origins. Tens of thousands of Hindu temples have been demolished by the Malay government. Was this because of the Malays dislike for Hinduism, or the Tamil working class of Indian origins? Let me explain that if the Tamils were Buddhists and the Chinese (the ones with the money) were Hindu, it would be the Buddhist temples that would be demolished and not the Hindu ones. The Tamil working class may be primarily Hindu, but there are Tamils of Christian and Catholic faiths who undergo the same discrimination in schools and jobs.
The original protest was sparked by the demolition of Hindu temples, but grew out to finally expose the injustices not only in temple demolition, but discrimination against Tamils in jobs and education. Please do not jump the gun and make this out to be a religious issue, when religion is only part of the bigger issue, and this bigger issue is unequal treatment of Tamils in Malaysia. There are no Christianss in the Hindu Rights Action Force. It is a Hindu apparatus, that happens to also represent Tamils that were enslaved by he British. There is no "what if" here, Malaysia is going after the weakest minority, which is Tamil Hindus. Ponnusamy was notable even before HINDRAF, and HINDRAF has done little but to augment his notability.Bakaman17:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not arguing with you on this. However, what I am trying to explain is that this is a Tamil problem. If you want to say which faith amongst the Tamils are the minority, it would be the Christians. But this is not what this topic we are discussion is about. This is about discrimination of the Tamil working class from Tamil Nadu who came from the homeports of Madras and Nagapatnam during the British rule. The laborers were Hindu in Majority, and Christian/ Catholic in Minority. There were several Tamil groups in Malaysia, but it was HINDRAF which took the lead while the others did not want to participate, out of fear. I give HINDRAF credit for taking the lead and hope that other Tamil groups will follow. I will stand up against the demolition of Hindu temples on behave of my Tamil brothers and sisters of Hindu faith, even though I am not Hindu. What bonds Tamils together is the fact that we are Tamil. We must eradicate ourselves from religious, national, and caste differences and unite as Tamils. While uniting as Tamils we must at the same time respect each others faiths and backgrounds. Wiki Raja (talk) 20:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is the first time I am agreeing with you (I can't believe it). Actually the article is about Ponnusamy and not the lawsuit. Ok, I'll leave it be. Wiki Raja (talk) 21:03, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
