anti-gay slur

[edit]

I noticed there's a section on Simmonds calling Sean Avery an anti-gay slur on Sean Avery's own page, but not on Simmond's own page, which strikes me as a bit weird. Maybe that section should be moved from the Avery article (since Avery didn't really have anything to do with it other than being called a name) to the Simmonds article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.246.203.94 (talk) 04:42, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of banana incident?

[edit]

The article says that the banana thrown on the ice in London was interpreted as being racist, but it would be nice if there were an explanation as to why. I've heard of Asians being called "bananas" when they are perceived to "act too white" ("yellow on the outside, white on the inside"), but Simmonds is black. What was the banana supposed to mean? Why was it taken as racist? CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 23:36, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a reference to apes

[edit]

Apes, of course, are known for eating bananas, and black people have frequently been characterized as ape-like in racist tradition.
