[edit]I requested permission from Wayne Sayles to write a Wiki article on him and he extended permission. He also told me I could use whatever information I wanted from his website for the biographical/historical information. Salsany (talk) 22:22, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I have edited the article further. Most of what is "copied" is factual information. I still have a lot of information to add and more edits to complete. Salsany (talk) 22:37, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Salsany, and thanks for the comments and the article. A couple of things:
- First, the Bio section is very close to the source page. Even though facts cannot be copyrighted, the creative elements of presentation, including word order and choice, can be. So when relating facts such as these from the source, it is best not top copy text in and then re-write it, but rather read and digest the source, then write the content here in your own words.
- Second, on the question of permission: Because Wikipedia editors are pretty much anonymous, and because of the license Wikipedia publishes under, we need some more things done when copyright permission is claimed, if you wish to use that text verbatim. Since Wikipedia releases its content under This Free License (which allows anyone anywhere to use, re-use, modify, parody, sell for a profit, or basically any purpose whatsoever), we must ensure that source material is similarly licensed. I can go into the various means of doing so, if you're not familiar with them.
- And finally, (as you doubt already know from your time here), the subject should be made aware that the article is subject to continuous editing by the Wikipedia community. It may be added to, subtracted from, rearranged, illustrated, split into multiple articles, translated into other languages, and otherwise changed beyond his expectations. Thanks again for your work, CrowCaw 18:58, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
I will work on editing the article further as time permits. Salsany (talk) 05:18, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
