Origin of name

Several of the articles on US places named "Waverly" state that these places were named after Sir Walter Scott's Waverley novels. I'd be interested to know why, in that case, the spelling was changed.--Mabzilla (talk) 11:29, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
