The Wikipedia article about the 1900s says that time period was between about the year 1900 and 1910. So "early 1900s" suggests something happening near the start of that first decade of the 20th century. However, the time period this article seems to be talking about is the prohibition era between about 1920 and about 1933, when organized crime was smuggling alcoholic beverages in from Canada. Prior to 1920, there was no need for smuggling because alcohol was legal. And after prohibition was repealed in 1933, importing alcohol was legal again. I could understand if what was meant here was the early 20th century, or a time period between about 1900 and about 1936.
