Talk:Waterfowl hunting
2007 rewrite
[edit]I am in the process of rewriting the article to incorporate sources, remove unsourced or non-encyclopedic material, and to provide more on the history of hunting. I have already moved the article from duck hunting to expand its scope. Please feel free to help if you have sources to contribute; more pics would be welcome. Merge Wildfowling with/into this article
[edit]The wildfowling article seems to be a British view of waterfowl hunting. Merging would help correct the lack of world-view in both articles and be less confusing. Wachholder0 00:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Confusing sentence re shotguns
[edit]There is a confusing sentence discussing shotguns which I am not sure how to fix. The sentence currently reads:
- In the days of market hunting, four (10) gauge, six (12) gauge, eight (20) gauge and (28) gauge shotguns were used in hunting. The four and six gauge were mounted to small boats.
The numbers in parentheses don't make sense. The numbers noted (10, 12, 20, 28) are also shotgun gauges, but aren't equivalent to 4, 6, 8 gauge. I'm not sure what is being meant; it's not a clarification. Maybe someone with the correct subject matter expertise can clarify or remove as appropriate. --Kadin2048 (talk) 03:39, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
"Wildfowling" isn't synonymous with "Waterfowl hunting", it's a special case
[edit]According to the British Association for Shooting and Conservation "Wildfowling is the pursuit of ducks, geese and waders on the foreshore with a shot gun, and this also extends to punt guns." While foreshore is defined as "the “area between the low water and high water marks of an ordinary spring tide.” Therefore "Wildfowling" is a special case (locally limited) of "Waterfowl hunting" and not synonymous as the introduction and the "Wildfowling in the UK" section suggest. I'm no native English speaker, so please correct me if I got that wrong. --Tilon3 (talk) 09:40, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
