[edit]Wassan Al-Khudhairi is one of the youngest museum directors ever, and among a handful of internationally recognized contemporary art curators from the Arab world.
The Keynote speaker at the 2012 Communicating the Museum conference [1], Wassan received her BA in Art History from Georgia State University and M.A. with distinction in Islamic Art and Architecture from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London.
While Director of Mathaf[2], Wassan was responsible for developing Mathaf as a public institution, overseeing its daily operations, collections management, policy development, education activities, long-term strategy development and recruitment. She co-curated Mathaf's inaugural exhibition Sajjil: A Century of Modern Art, which showcased works from Mathaf’s permanent collection. It was through her leadership that Mathaf opened with three simultaneous exhibitions of modern and contemporary Arab art[3] and her guidance iwas pivotal in shaping its commitment to not shy away from potentially controversial[4] work [5] as well as Mathaf's commitment to work in collaboration across the Gulf.[6]
As a curator, her research interests are in modern art from the Arab world, with a particular emphasis on Iraq. Al-Khudhairi has presented on the role of Iraqi women artists in formulating modernism in Iraq. She was recently appointed one of six Joint Artistic Directors of the 9th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea in 2012. Originally from Iraq, Wassan has lived in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UK and the US, where she worked at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York.

[edit]Do you have a source for the claim of the youngest ever, else that bold claim should be removed as it is a peacock term. Widefox; talk 15:04, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
