Warhammer Fantasy/ Warhammer Fantasy Battle
[edit]I'm confused. What's the difference between this article and Warhammer Fantasy? Sure, the beginning of the other article says that "warhammer is a setting" and this article says that "warhammer is a game". If this is true, I'm going to suggest either re-labling the articles as "Warhammer (Setting)" "Warhammer (Game)"
My Vote is that we have it organized like this :
Warhammer (Company, which includes list of games owned by GW) Then we can have: warhammer (game) warhammer (setting) (this can include links to other games like mordheim Then we have seperate articles on each minor game, or one list of them.
It seems like this would GREATLY add to the cleaning up of the warhammer articles on wikipedia, which in my opinion are disorganized and terrible.
For Example, I Made a major contribution to the wood elves article, and the article has remained basically the same as i left it (last year). When I have time, I will crusade to clean up the warhammer articles. But until then, this article either needes to be renamed, moved, or merged. I'm going to add the 'merge' tag until i get a response.
EDIT: I move WHF to WHF (setting) MYSELF! Go look at the talk page for Warhammer Fantasy (setting)
Reply 16/06/24:
Agreed that the current layout of articles is exceptionally confusing and not very useful for anyone wanting to find out what Warhammer is.
The key issue here seems to be that the Warhammer (game) article is mistaken. There is no game system called Warhammer. It is incredibly misleading for a lay audience to direct any query on the Warhammer hobby or game system to an article about the Warhammer Fantasy Battle game.
Instead, there should be a general intro page called something like 'Warhammer (game franchise)' that gives a general overview of the entire Warhammer hobby, it's themes and focus, and then a list of individual games.
This article should be retitled something like 'Warhammer Fantasy Battle / The Old World'

Merge Proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was do not merge. Riposte97 (talk) 00:59, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
I propose merging Warhammer Fantasy (setting) into this page. There is obvious overlap.
Earlier this year, 40K consolidated most of their setting pages onto their main page, and the result is a far more rational encyclopaedic entry. I think this would be particularly helpful to newcomers, especially with the pending re-release of WHFB.
Please indicate whether you support or oppose below, and why. Thank you. Riposte97 (talk) 00:22, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: A merge is not necessary because this article is well sourced and has potential for improvement. 2601:240:E200:3B60:E0FD:4466:64:7446 (talk) 11:06, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: The setting of the table top wargame is shared with the pen-and-paper role-playing game, and there is nothing wrong with keeping a separate article on the setting, which then both Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay can reference (not to speak of the slew of video games). CapnZapp (talk) 14:29, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: The setting is used for multiple types of Warhammer media and not just Warhammer (game). My major caveat is that Warhammer Fantasy (setting) needs major clean up in order to stand alone; in terms of improvement, Publication history and Reception sections should be added with secondary sources and the unsourced fictional elements should be trimmed (while neither Forgotten Realms nor Multiverse (Magic: The Gathering) is perfect, they do showcase how you can have a standalone setting article). While I often to do cleanup projects, I don't have time for this one. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:22, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
