Coumadin +/- Marevan

[edit]

Hi @Whywhenwhohow - just hoping to clarify your edit summary of "original name". Warfarin is primarily sold under the brand names Coumadin (no longer sold in the US and Canada, but still prescribed in Australia and some EU countries) and Marevan (see Australia's Acute Care NIMC etc), with Jantoven only being in the US if I am not misled. Is there a specific reason why you're concerned about including Marevan as the other primary brand name for warfarin (especially considering Marevan directs to Warfarin)? The initial brand name is used. Other brand names can be added to the brand names section. See WP:MEDMOS. Whywhenwhohow (talk) 05:46, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, no worries. I'm just a bit confused though as WP:MEDMOS also says The alternative names may be specified in the lead - seems to have a bit of an internal contradiction. Considering that Coumadin seems to be progressively being discontinued, but that Marevan and Jantoven continue to be heavily prescribed, I guess I'm just wondering where the benefit/critical reasoning for only including an increasingly 'historic' name and not including significant, active brand names is?
