Fair use rationale for Image:U2WarTour.jpg

[edit]

Image:U2WarTour.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Tour delineation

[edit]

Some of my earlier attempts to explain the delineation issues with this tour have been undone, but I feel it's important to do so. This is especially true since if we were to rigourously conform to the most official or near-official sources, we'd have to break the Pre-War Tour out as a separate article. I have no desire to do that (just seems like needless proliferation of articles), so I have given in a detailed footnote the rationale for the article incorporating the content that it does. There is no consensus among sources at all about the status of the European festival performances and the Japan dates, so those are covered in the footnote as well. I'm not sure what the issue is. If there's delineation that's fine. I only removed the comment that there was various interpretations on delineation (or words to that effect) as I only saw one interpretation. But, you have since expanded on this, although I think we are really getting a bit too precious.
I'm not sure how your work has been undone. As I'm the only one to change this I feel I should ask. :
No, I too can't see a need to split the article into "pre" and "proper" war tour articles.
I disagree with your sentence order concerning the dates and you've reverted what I see as clarifications. To me, it's convoluted and confusing. Eg, it's probably why erroneously said two months instead of three. --Merbabu (talk) 07:17, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring first to this edit by an IP back when I wasn't watching the article, then your recent edits (my bad for not doing all my changes on this at once instead of piecemeal). I'm confused about what you're referring to by sentence order/reversion, but looking through the diffs, if it's what I just now redid the change was inadvertant and I've restored it. Perhaps the following could be re-worded:
Beginning three months before War's release on 28 February 1983, U2 played the Pre-War Tour:[3][4] 20 shows, and a television appearance, in halls in Western Europe, commencing on 1 December 1982 in Glasgow and finishing in the band's home town, Dublin on 24 December.[3]
Cheers. --Merbabu (talk) 11:36, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have tried to do so. Wasted Time R (talk) 00:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First tour GA

[edit]

As far as I can tell, this is the first concert tour article in WP to get to GA or FA status. Yay! (I'm not counting the FA Mozart family grand tour of 1763–1766, which is clearly a different kind of beast.) Tour articles have long been a backwater of the WP music domain, so hopefully this article can serve as an example for others to follow. Wasted Time R (talk) 23:51, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here to s(t)ay

[edit]

Can someone with access to the original source please double-check that what Bono said was, "We're an Irish band and we're here to say" rather than "...here to stay"? "Here to stay" makes more sense as he's contrasting the band with other bands just "passing through", and "here to say" would only make sense if it were followed by the statement that the band was here to say. I double-checked the source and you're right, of course. I've fixed it; thanks for the spot. Wasted Time R (talk) 13:41, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Error in the Tour listings

[edit]

I was surprised to see no listing for their show in Portland back in 1983. I know they had a show here because I was there, in that firetrap known as the Paramount, with my girlfriend at the time. And it was probably the best rock concert I ever attended. Fortunately, I found this link that verifies my memory. (After all, on Wikipedia no one knows if you are a pathological liar without a reliable source.) -- llywrch (talk) 07:38, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
