Marriage
[edit]Goddard Henry Orpen questions the statement that de Burgh married a daughter of Hugh de Lacy, 1st Earl of Ulster - see Orpen, Goddard Henry (1913). "The Earldom of Ulster". The journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland. 43: 34. Retrieved 17 July 2022.. Neither de Burgh's own article in the Dictionary of Irish Biography nor Hugh de Lacy's article therein mentions such a marriage. De Lacy's article says that "Although he had several daughters his lordship of Ulster was taken into the king's hands after his death (a. February 1242). It was eventually granted to his great-nephew, Walter de Burgh (qv), in 1263." Walter de Burgh was the son of Egidia de Lacy, Lady of Connacht, daughter of Walter de Lacy, Lord of Meath, the elder brother of Hugh de Lacy. I propose to amend the article accordingly.
