Walter Spies Death
[edit]Citation from the wiki article: "and because the crew were reluctant to evacuate the Germans without a corresponding orde"
This is simply wrong, according to survivors of the "Van Imhof" the crew did not only leave the prisoners imprisoned in the ships hull, but did destroy rescue-vessels they didnt needed. The intentionally left all 460 germans to drown with the ship.

Official Statement of Mr. "Albert Vehring" on 20. of June 1949 at the court of Bielefeld, Germany (Urkundenrolle Nr. 61/1949) Mr. Vehring is one of the few survivors of the incident.
After the war Walter Spies parents sued the captain of the "Van Imhof" who was sentenced to death but instantly was given amnesty.
Therefore i suggest to change this article so it reflects the true reason of Walter Spies death!

- If you believe this source is reliable, then you should change the article. See WP:BOLD and WP:RS. regards --Merbabu (talk) 05:53, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
- After the war Walter Spies parents sued the captain of the "Van Imhof" who was sentenced to death but instantly was given amnesty.
- This is not true. There was an inquest but not indictment in the Netherlands against the two captains, that from "Van Imhoff" and from "Boelongan", which turned on. The real serious source of the Van Imhoff-disaster is
- Van Heekeren, Batavia seint: Berlijn. De geschiedenisvan de Indische Duitsers in Nederlandse gevangenschap. s' Gravenhage 1983.
- And other history works about the WWII in netherlands india. About the war crimes of the Netherlands there be a thesis, which includes all facts too. Due to the information politic in the WWII of the Germans, Japanese and Netherlands there are many legends about the "Van Imhoff" desaster.

References
[edit]Nigel Barlay and Vicki Baum are not references even novells. And therefore are this books receptions, like the opera about "A house in Bali" by Colin McPhee is a reception, and not references. There are many legends about WS in the world. The real source is
- Hans Rhodius, Schönheit und Reichtum des Lebens. Walter Spies - Maler und Musiker auf Bali. Walter Boucher, Den Haag 1964.
- Hans Rhodius, John Darling, John Stowell (edit.), Walter Spies and Balenese Art. Zutphen, Amsterdam 1980.

The website http://www.walterspies.com/ is about his second little house in Iseh Karangasem, not the house near Ubud Campuan. The painting on this webside is a fake, due to all serious sources. -- 85.179.19.120 (talk) 11:33, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Other misprints are: Vicki Baum was not in Iseh, if she was only in 1935 for 10 days and in 1936 for more than 5 month in Campuan living with Walter Spies as guest and writing her novel. If Theo Mayer was the guest of Spies in Iseh I cannot say but he was there living in later times as WS was in internment camp on Sumatra and more later. The Gela Archipenko photo was exactly from 1930 if she was only in this year at Bali. -- 85.179.19.120 (talk) 23:27, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
