Can someone tone down this article? I'd do it, but my despise for astrologer would make me go to far down. AstroNomer
- Hi! I suggest you don't use the word "great" in the first line. Although he is famous indeed, I don't think this is far from beinng a consensus. Also, I would remove all the final paragraph, as his sexuality is not important to an encyclopedia, in my opinion. Sorry about my poor english. Yves Marques Teixeira
- I agree about the silly discussion of his sexuality. Done. --User:Bcrowell
Deletion
Hey, this page should be voted for deletion. Yves 03:03 Sep 12, 2002 (UTC)
- Yeah, it really read like a fan page. I toned it down. Is there a process for deleting a page? If so, I agree with Yves, it should be deleted. --User:Bcrowell
- It would be good for the spanish language wikipedia to get more citations.--Howmee 22:56, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- I also agree with everyone DELETE THIS PAGE NOW! What does sexuality have to do with anything. -Wendy
- If this page is deleted, then RuPaul's page should too. This page is informative, and sexuality, whether anybody wants it or not, IS a big part of everyone's lifes. Mr. Mercado has not said anything about his preferences, but rumors about it abound all over Latin America. Besides, Mercado is one of history's best known astrologers. This would be paramount to erasing Babe Ruth's page if it had info about Ruth's alcoholism problems. Antonio Zoo Beast Martin
- History's best-known astologers? Hardly! Maybe one of the best-known in latin America.. BTW, did you ever deal with your homophobia issues? --98.232.188.173 (talk) 05:43, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Fundamentally, the reason a WP:BLP is deleted is if the subject has not attained notability. But I think he has attained notability as a celebrity, "famous simply for being famous", within a sizable consumer demographic. Wikipedia:ENT#Entertainers considers celebrities who have "a large fan base or a significant 'cult' following" to be notable, regardless of whether they've done anything notable. Rumors
Since there is a line about a potential marriage, I've added a clause about the wide-spread rumors that Mercado is gay. -Willmcw 23:06, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)
I support your addition. An encyclopedia includes important facts about an issue, place, or person. Sexual Orientation, believe it or not, can dictate a lot in somebody's life. While it may not please you that the general consensus claims him homosexual, Wikipedia is not something you censor based on personal belief. Tchaikowsky, for example, was homosexual, and it made a ton of difference in his life. Freddie Mercury was also homosexual, and it killed him. If we left out those bits of information from their bios, would it make sense? Tchaikowsky fainted when he kissed his bride for no apparent reason. Freddie Mercury just dropped dead, or magically appeared with AIDS. I mean, it is an important factor, so please include it. Also, thank you for toning down the fanpage, it now reads more like an encyclopedia. -Chewbacca 01:12, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- Uh, AIDS killed Freddie Mercury. Not being gay. Go tell the 5 million+ people in Africa and Asia with AIDS they're all gay. --98.232.176.109 (talk) 09:31, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Wow, a walter wacko. This page seems to havge been written by a "follower" with no sources cited at all.
Bold text
Wow. This dude really likes Walter. Anyway, I also cleaned the page a little. Deleted the part where it said that his fame as an actor "reached all of latina America. I don't think so. Hopw come there aren't any mentons of whatever soaps he worked on by name? I can't find anything on the net that supports that he ever was one of the first 'teen idols" so i'll probably take that off as well.
One more thing: What is the "International Philo-Byzantine Academy & University" Mercado got a "doctorate in divinity" from. Sounds like a scam. It really reads like a fan page.
- I would agree that the section on the doctorates needs editing. For example, if these are honorary doctorates (seems the most likely, considering he's been a bit too busy to have had much time for graduate study), the article should say so. There is such a thing as a doctorate in divinity, to my knowledge; there is most definitely a master's in divinity (M.Div.). However, that doesn't mean the schools from which he claims these titles actually grant those degrees other than honorarily. Lawikitejana 00:42, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
01/26/2009 Wow. Walter defeated today in Miami Federal Court. Thought he could tell the future.................. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.9.54.242 (talk) 02:23, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Page name
I've moved the article back to "Walter Mercado". While the subject may have changed his name, Wikipedia articles use the most common name, even when that is different from the official name. The subject became famous as Walter Mercado. Should his fame under his new name eclipse his former name then the article should be moved, but not before. Will Beback talk 09:49, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Seems fair, sorry for moving the page. > RUL3R>trolling>vandalism 11:52, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- No harm, no foul. Redirects cover many possible titles. If you can find any good sources to improve this article, in English or Spanish, that'd be helpful. Will Beback talk 11:58, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
