Unsuitable Picture
This is not a Star Trek encyclopedia. Why is this actor's only picture in heavy make-up & prosthetics?
Any relation
I couldn't help but notice that his "long-time companion" according to the page is "Deborah Eisenberg" and fellow Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actor (playing another Ferengi, although there's no blood relation between the characters) is Aron Eisenberg. I can't help but wonder if there's a relation, I know Eisenberg is a somewhat common name, but the coincidence is too glaring for my eyes. --Canuckguy 02:54, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup in Acting section
I'm substantially cleaning up the Acting section. It reads poorly, with misuse of commas and too many embedded clauses. Detailed information about films or characters (e.g., that Clueless was inspired by Emma) hardly belong in the twice-removed Wallace Shawn entry. J. Goard 04:54, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Definitions
An IP user has objected to the use of the name character actor for Wallace Shawn, stating that all actors are character actors. You are in fact, incorrect. here are the OED defs...
"Actor: A person who's profession is acting in the stage, movies or on television."
"Character Actor: An actor who specilizes in playing eccentric or unusual people rather than leading roles."
Wallace Shawn is the very definition of a character actor. Other than in his own work he has never been in a leading role, and many of his comedic performances are odd or eccentric (not to menion his appearance). VanTucky 23:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. The IP address is confusing "character" and "actor" with "character actor". Obviously, all actors are playing characters. But a "character actor" is a more narrow definition, as you say. The term is typically used with supporting players, as you say. Wahkeenah 00:49, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Credit as Wally Shaw?
It seems to me that Wallace Shawn was at least once credited as Wally Shaw, but I can't remember the particulars. J S Ayer 15:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Turtle human hybrid?
I'm assuming that's vandalism? Or has he really described himself as that?98.220.223.197 (talk) 03:24, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Confusion
Curtis Armstrong and Kevin Conway (and to a lesser extend Wallace Shawn) seem to have the same 'problem' in my 'minds eye', they can be confused with one another. Is there a correct and relevant way to unconfuse them in the article? Somehow, the "Not to be confused with" flag doesn't seem appropriate. LP-mn (talk) 19:36, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Blurry Photo
Does anyone have a better photo of Shawn? The one that is in the article now is a bit blurry. CPAScott (talk) 15:20, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
sister
Wallace Shawn has a younger sister named Mary who has been institutionalized since the mid-1950s, when she was six. Mary was diagnosed with what were then referred to as mental retardation and "infantile schizophrenia," the former term for the condition now diagnosed under the name "autism.". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.243.196.250 (talk) 15:25, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
- Well, yes; their brother Allen Shawn even wrote a book about his relationship with her. But is it worth including, or just trivia? Trivialist (talk) 15:57, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
