Release History Chart

This chart cites mostly iTunes, listed on WP:BADCHARTS. Is the inclusion good or bad? Andewz111 (talk · contribs) (typo intended) 22:31, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

It should be, iTunes in badcharts is in reference of the Charts list. Release History can have the iTunes or Amazon source. TbhotchTalk C. 00:33, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Update tag added

Information in the body of the article is out of date and needs updating. In addition, this song reflects the current upcoming Mundial (World Cup). Several performances by Shakira are scheduled and should be incorporated into this article. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Holy crap her English is waka waka

Which school did she go to learn her fluent english? Please add any reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Triplespy (talkcontribs) 06:27, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Non-free images

It appears that this article makes extensive use of non-free images. One should be the limit. ----moreno oso (talk) 23:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Meaning of title?

What's the name "Waka waka" mean? There's a suggestion from one of the review quotes that's it's from an "old Cameroonian tune", is that true? 207.58.192.150 (talk) 14:57, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

I haven't looked into it fully, but it the words are contained in the lyrics and the first reference mentions that it came from an African source. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
I am looking too... the only thing I see is that it was taken from the song by Trafassi "Waka Waka" (who's chorus is almost word for word used in Shakira's version). I am wondering if it has no more meaning than when Fozzie Bear chose it for his catch phrase... (is the fassi in Trafassi a coincidence or a nod to the famous muppet?!?) --Billy Nair (talk) 22:42, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Waka waka means Do it - as in perform a task. Waka is pidgin language meaning walk while working. The original song (more African sounding) was by "Golden Sounds" before it was redone by "Trafassi" (more Latin sounding), most likely the version Shakira heard first. Source: Zangalewa --Billy Nair (talk) 23:05, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia should avoid using any one source and require several independent reliably sourced third-party neutral verifiable citations. Local interpretations are bound to arise and could have unknown impact should the wrong one be used. ----moreno oso (talk) 23:36, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
I thought the song was named in tribute to Pacman? i will find sources. --Yerkschmerk (talk) 14:21, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Original Song not referenced?

It appears this was taken from an existing song. A copy of which is available at http://www.zoopy.com/video/4cp7/waka-waka-the-original-version-of-world-cup-son Does anyone have more information on who the original artist is, and what agreement (if any) Shakira struck with them? ----singelet 13 June 2010

It seems the original artist was a Cameroonian band called Zangalewa. It also appears there was some controvesy over royalty and a deal was struck after Shakira produced the song. I'm going to update the main page but make it clear there is still some research required. I am curious to know if there are any explanation on the similarities of the Waka Waka that she published in 2010 and this song from Chicas del Can published in the early 1980 ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtDBiuO_5_4 [I can't find any reference ... ] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.29.109.140 (talk) 21:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

If you want to go there and take photos, we might be glad to use a good one, if you can get one.
But: what's with all the emphasis on the clothing? This is supposed to be an article about a song, but now we've got images of design drawings of two outfits of the singer at performances of the song. I think that's stretching the connecting thread a little far. Let's focus on the song, and mention any notable performances (opening and closing ceremonies, OK) without undue emphasis. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 06:51, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
But i think it is also a part of her performance. So in the future if it will carry large number of information , we should delete the clothing part. Thank you.Ashishvats23 (talk) 07:13, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Ashishvats23 (talk) , 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Quotes

There are way too many quotes in this article, instead of removing them I have placed a banner at the top, hoping we can get some of them removed or changed to a more encyclopedic style, with out destroying the article. - Mcmatter (talk|contrib) 16:08, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Plagarism Section

Last year(2010) there was a section about the chorus and title of this song being a direct copy of the traditional African soldiers' song named Zamina mina (Zangalewa), a 1980s makossa hit for Cameroonian group Golden Sounds, without their permission. Not sure why it has been taken out. I am returning it. I think too Shakira heard Waka Waka from this 1980s Dominican Republic merengue group Chicas del Can (version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtDBiuO_5_4). They too remade/sampled Zamina mina. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.79.72.180 (talkcontribs) 00:07, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Using sources to blogs to argue that it was copied even if there is an earlier version that you link to. That is what they call OR and it's not allowed. I have to take it out. No fighting about it on an here please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.83.35.137 (talk) 06:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC) I removed this part: <ref>{{cite web|url=http://lauramartinez.wordpress.com/2010/06/13/way-before-shakira-the-waka-waka-was-called-el-negro-no-puede |title=Way Before Shakira Reached Puberty, the Waka Waka Was Called ‘El Negro no Puede’ « Mi blog es tu blog |publisher=Lauramartinez.wordpress.com |date=2010-06-13 |accessdate=2011-12-05}}</ref>

The end of the first paragraph of the Controversy section is unsourced and needs to be cleaned up:

The Waka Waka music is a direct Replicant of Cameroonian 1986 hit song called “Zangalewa” sung by a band of Retired World War II Armies . However, Shakira claimed it was an inexplicable inspiration from a family tour in Uruguay during an interview. Rumors have it that , the Original Cameroonian composers were compensated .

Chart vandalism

Hello! I discovered a lot of the entries in the Weekly Charts section were wrong, which I attributed to vandalism. In order to remedy this, I went back to the last edit where the charts remained unblemished and copied all the information from that edit into the Weekly Charts section. I'm not sure if there were any more charts added since then, so that's why I'm letting my fellow Wikipedians know on this talk page. Please note I've added this article to my watchlist, so make sure any more charts added use factual, cited information, or I won't hesitate to revert any future edits. Thanks for understanding! Hello,

Sorry, it's my first time proposing something on wikipedia, and I wonder how, when and if, someone is going to read this^^

Also, I wonder if I should have written some sort of presentation of who I am somewhere first...

Anyway, I was thinking that this article should at least mention the zamina mina camerooneese hit from the 80s.

Because this page is probably visited a lot more than this one .

And that also means correcting the "Written, composed, and produced by" part almost everywhere in the article...

Since this article is important for a lot projects, I don't think I should be the one editing it as the first I do upon arrival... I'd rather change something in an pbscure never riidden article for my first try. :p

More Legacy

I've heard this song sung/played at Walt Disney World. Does that count?
