Vaghena or Wagina?
[edit]It sounds like this article should be renamed Wagina Island with Vaghena Island as a redirect? Hpa (talk) 04:06, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- As far as I can see, that is by far the more common spelling as used in English. It's what's on several maps. It is the name in a 1944 U.S. Hydrographic Office gazetteer of the Solomon Islands et al.. For the reasons outlined in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Falkie Atoll, I believe that the initial version of this article by Dakrommel (talk · contribs) was subtle vandalism, including using this version of the island name and mentioning a Kenli Bay that I cannot verify to exist. [edit]I want to make major edits here and want to contribute Wikipedia in a good way. 103.191.123.157 (talk) 07:45, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
- Dear IP, the very first thing you need to do is to gain some credibility. Getting an account instead of editing under an IP address is a really good start. IP addresses tend to be treated with suspicion. Once you have an account and editing under a real name you get to develop credibility by making good edits that do not get reverted. Meanwhile, try writing your changes in here and convince somebody, maybe even me, to make the changes on your behalf. Happy editing Ex nihil (talk) 14:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
"OBM"?
[edit]As I post this, the opening description ends with the sentence "From Kagau it takes only 45 – 60 minutes by OBM to Wagina." I was not aware that the Old Brewery Mission operated outside of Canada, or provided transportation, so I suspect that "OBM" means something else in this context. Could whoever knows what the abbreviation actually means expand it (as per MOS:ABBR) to prevent further confusion, please? Rob Kelk 21:46, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
The area of the island is wrong
[edit]In the article, there is 110 sqkm, but that's not true. It will be about 80 only. In this article https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-07/wagina-island-wins-bid-stop-bauxite-mining-plan-solomon-islands/12855704 they says it is 78 sqkm. Even by my hand the result is about 83 sqkm from the map. https://mapy.cz/turisticka?mereni-vzdalenosti&x=157.7674923&y=-7.4357297&z=13&sid=EBSB2KulSnGxUPHikowAjg But it's a bit smaller because on the east there is some island divided by water passage from the Wagina. That's visible from satellite images. It means 78 sqkm will be true. SI-matt (talk) 09:32, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- SI-matt, change it to 78km2 and reference it. Ex nihil (talk) 09:49, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
