Earliest schools Suggestion
[edit]@Marshelec: 1881 seems very late in the day for "one of the earliest schools in Wellington". Would that claim be right for just one restricted type of school? Eddaido (talk) 00:46, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Eddaido: Thanks, good point. I have found the original source of the assertion - on the school's website, but you are correct, it needs to be clarified or else deleted from the article. I think it might be justifiable to say Wadestown School was one of the earliest state primary schools in Wellington, since apparently New Zealand did not establish a state education system until 1877. See: History of Education in New Zealand. As it happens, the book I have by Monigatti describes a private school operating in Wadestown from around 1865. I will search for further sources about the development of state schools in Wellington, and then update the content accordingly. Marshelec (talk) 03:54, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
