T-Ray

[edit]

Who keeps erasing T-Ray, (the source of the article) from this page? I keep adding T-Ray's page and somebody keeps erasing it? Who is it? J-Greb, anybody. (JoeLoeb (talk) 03:39, 18 April 2009 (UTC))[reply]

You're only meant to have 1 blue link on each line; I put that in my edit summary, I believe. I looked at both and went with the one which seemed to have more information on the character, but if you feel the blue link should be on T-Ray, take the other blue link out and put it around T-Ray. The result of the move request was: moved. Deadpool is the clear primary topic. (non-admin closure) Turtletennisfogwheat (talk) 06:12, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wade WilsonWade Wilson (disambiguation)Deadpool is the primary topic. See pageviews, and consider the long-term significance. InfiniteNexus (talk) 00:30, 3 November 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Raladic (talk) 01:30, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? I recognize this comment was made in good faith, but I'm really not sure I understand where you're coming from. Wade Wilson (film character) is a version of Deadpool, the comic-book character. It's a subtopic that was split from the parent article due to length reasons. It will never surpass the original character to become the primary topic.
Iron Man was a virtually unknown character before the MCU, and yet Tony Stark (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Iron Man (2008 film) are not the primary topic and will likely never be. Last year's Barbie movie was a massive hit, but it will never supersede the doll as the primary topic. Many "adaptation" or subtopic articles have higher pageviews than their original/parent counterpart, but that doesn't mean it is now the primary topic. Like you said, recentism: the thing that inspired another thing will always have greater long-term significance precisely because of that, except in highly exceptional cases such as The Godfather. Your suspicion that the film character article is getting a spike in pageviews is correct, so that observation should be discarded — but even if the film character article received consistently high pageviews, the comic-book character is still the primary topic in terms of long-term significance, as pageviews alone are not the sole determinant of a primary topic.
The vast majority of people looking for Deadpool will search for 'Deadpool', not 'Wade Wilson'. I'm not sure I understand this point either. That would be relevant if I were proposing to move Deadpool to Wade Wilson, and we were discussing the common name. The crux of the matter is that those who search for "Wade Wilson" are most likely looking for the character rather than the footballer or criminal. As for the last part about Deadpool (film) or Deadpool (comic book) — forgive me for being blunt, but I just cannot wrap my head around this suggestion. Deadpool the film and Deadpool the comic book are titled Deadpool, not Wade Wilson ...

Thank you for the clarification and for correcting the treatment of Wade Wilson (film character) after I added it to the dab page. Part of what I'm saying is that we can't assign all of the popularity of the Deadpool article to "Wade Wilson", since that's not how most people would arrive at the Deadpool article. Most people who have a passing familiarity with Deadpool would not immediately recognize that "Wade Wilson" is Deadpool. And there is also some recentism concern about the character. The American football player looks very notable, and his primary common name was actually Wade Wilson. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:50, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We have an article for Wade Wilson (criminal) solely because he shares the same name as the character, and people found that amusing/clickbaity. Clearly, plenty of people are aware Wade Wilson = Deadpool. InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:32, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
