[edit]I would agree re merging this page with WRIR Richmond Indie Radio- this page has minimal info, and some of it is out of date. -- James4765
- To James4765:
- Good idea to merge if there were 2 separate Wikipedia articles, however there should still be one article left; the station has about 180 volunteers this year alone, people should be able to look it up on Wikipedia. Why was the whole well-written development of the station deleted from this article? Was the actual history of the founding of WRIR considered out-of-date? Re-writing history if inaccuracies are found is one thing. Wiping it out entirely, like the soviet's disappearing history, is more like cultural vandalism. 74.60.24.250 (talk) 01:42, 22 March 2012 (UTC) Napita 21st Mar'12
- I also agree. However, the station is not very notable, so deletion might be appropriate. It is a very low power station, which means it has a very small range. Also, much of its content appears to be produced by other stations. -- Kjkolb 11:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- To Kjkolb:
- WRIR at its founding was (still is?) the largest community low-power FM in the United States, & the only one with a satellite downlink system for NPR & Pacifica Radio, & produces at least two hours a day of locally originated news & discussion shows, plus 128 hours per week of locally produced music shows. Within its "very small range" in the capital city of Richmond, Virginia, it has the highest density, highest number of potential listeners in its signal area of any community LPFM in the US. 74.60.24.250 (talk) 01:42, 22 March 2012 (UTC) Napita 21st Mar '12
Nah...deletion is not neccessary. I think somebody should clean it up and make it sound more neutral. Radio-x 02:07, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
However, the station is not very notable, so deletion might be appropriate. I may be wrong, but I think that WRIR may have been the first successful non-religious low-power FM applicant in the country, which is certainly notable. -- SteveK.
- To Whomsoever Deleted the Thorough Article:
- SteveK is right. WRIR is also notable in that the wide range of community organizers convinced Richmond City Council to support LPFM with a resolution that was sent to Congress, the Senate & the FCC. That resolution was then cited by the FCC staff as being a factor that convinced the FCC commissioners to go ahead & vote for the creation of LPFM, the opening-up & public offering of LPFM frequencies. 74.60.24.250 (talk) 01:42, 22 March 2012 (UTC) Napita 21st Mar '12
Delete this page? Why would you want to do that? Sure, it sounds like an advertisement but it gives you great background information on this wonderful radio station! If you don’t believe me when I say that this radio station is very respectable and very notable than visit their website at www.wrir.org and see for yourself, they have a live internet stream. I volunteer there, it has a great community atmosphere and is a wonderful independent radio station, it should be truly admired! ~Miranda
A Little Re-write
[edit]I fixed the page to look a bit less like an advertisement. If somebody could put the Richmond radio template on here and fix the template to link 97.3 to this page...I'm just too lazy to do it now Radio-x 07:03, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
I added a date to the first airing of WRIR News. I worked with WRIR News in 2005 and was a reporter for that first show and did editing and reporting for subsequent shows. I would love to see this article grow to include much more information on the WRIR project past and present. Laurenmvb (talk) 17:23, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
