Fair use rationale for File:Wdca.jpg

[edit]

File:Wdca.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Mundo Fox?

[edit]

The article notes that WDCA is supposedly carrying NewsCorp's new Latino network MundoFox. However, the station does not appear on the network's list of affiliates, and the 20.2 subchannel has been showing a simulcast of sister station WTTG. Perhaps this is an intended programming change, but until it actually happens, it should not be reported as a fait accompli.

Furthermore, the reference used to support this information (Rabbitears.info) indicates only that it is coming soon. There is no date provided.

On this basis, I'm updating the article to reflect what is actually happening.

GodaiNoBaka (talk) 02:10, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see there have been some mods to this article since the last time I visited. A few more comments:

1) I previously removed the statement "WDCA is currently the only MundoFox station owned by the network itself." since it was undocumented and I questioned its significance in the first place. Clearly someone disagrees with me on the latter point, as the statement has been restored. Could we have some documentation, please? I flagged it as "citation needed."

2) 20.2 is not now broadcasting, and to the best of my knowledge never has broadcast MundoFox. I have been checking back on the subchannel often, and the only thing it is broadcasting is the WTTG simulcast. Therefore, the statement "MundoFox is broadcast on sub-channel 20.2" is inaccurate. I have modified this to indicate the likely future use of this subchannel to broadcast MundoFox, but also indicated its correct current use.

3) "Prior to August 13, 20.2 carried a standard-definition feed of sister station WTTG." - this is also inaccurate. Channel 20.2 did not exist as an active sub-channel until mid-August (not sure of the exact date). When 20.2 did start broadcasting, it did so with the WTTG simulcast, which continues to this day.

4) I removed my statement about MundoFox never having been carried on 20.2, which had been flagged as "citation needed." I agree that this is too broad a statement to make without documentation, although I know it to be true. No original research, however, so the statement goes.

I neither question WDCA's status as a MundoFox affiliate (although I continue to find it odd that neither WDCA's website nor MundoFox's mention this affiliation, if true), nor do I question the likelihood that the 20.2 sub-channel will eventually be used to show MundoFox programming. I simply want the article to be as accurate as possible, and to reflect the current state of their broadcast schedule. When they start carrying MundoFox, I'll be the first to support changing this article to reflect it. But it hasn't happened yet.

Another week, and still no sign of MundoFox programming on 20.2. Monitoring. GodaiNoBaka (talk) 10:19, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two more weeks later. Still no MundoFox, but 20.2 now carries a SD feed of WDCA's main programming instead of that of WTTG.

It's also been brought to my attention that in addition to being missing from the MundoFox website, WDCA is conspicuously absent from the affiliate list published on MundoFox's Facebook page in late July:

By George, we finally have MundoFox. Now...anybody got a source on the statement about WDCA being the only O&O station to carry it? GodaiNoBaka (talk) 22:32, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's been nearly three months since I questioned the statement about WDCA being the sole Fox O&O that is carrying MundoFox. Since nobody has sourced this claim despite it having been removed (and reverted) and tagged as "citation needed" I think it's now time to get rid of it again, until someone sources it properly.

Mundo Fox/Movies! shakeup

[edit]

May 27, 2013 saw the launch of the new Movies! network. Originally this was to air on WTTG subchannel 5.2 in the Washington D.C. market, and was being so advertised both on the Movies! website and in teaser ads on 5.2 until immediately prior to the launch. Apparently some last-minute decision was made to move Movies! to the 20.2 sub-channel, with Mundo Fox being pushed up to 10.3.

The new channel assignments seem to be official: the MundoFox website http://www.mundofox.com/ and the Movies! website http://www.moviestvnetwork.com/where-to-watch.php have both been updated to reflect the new assignments.

My Network TV (My20) WDCA is now FOX 5 Plus Effective July 17, 2017 (TODAY)

[edit]

Nascar36 (talk) 19:09, 17 July 2017 (UTC)WDCA is no longer affiliated with My Network TV Since it has been rebranded to FOX 5 Plus, And right now the channel has no slogan. They are still showing what my20 showed (My Network TV) , but it is no longer a My Network TV station.[reply]

On the commercials it says FOX 5 Plus Formley My 20

If WDCA was still affiliated with My Network TV then they would of not change the signs, but they did change the sign so the affiliated of MY Network TV has to be removed form the WDCA pages. and 20.2 has to be changed too FOX 5 PLUS, since it is no longer a my network tv station

Prose

[edit]
  • Wikilink UHF or perhaps spell it "ultra high frequency (UHF)".
  • Did Rogers elaborate on why it would not be viable?
    • Not in any specific words, but UHF stations were, uh, going through it at that time. Anyone in TV back in 1956 would have known this.
      • Noted.
  • "from Automated Electronics, Inc., of Dallas" — I do not think we need a comma after Inc. here.
  • "As part of his transition from an on-air personality to a media executive, he began going by Milton instead of Milt" — recommend "…media executive, Grant began going by Milton instead of Milt" to avoid repetition of pronouns.
  • Just curious: is there a reason Capital Broadcasting Company is not abbreviated like some of the other companies?
    • It's not really what comes to mind with "CBC". Also, there is a still-extant and operating Capitol Broadcasting Company, with an O, in North Carolina, and I wanted to avoid confusion with it.
      • Oh I see! That makes sense.
  • I reckon wikilinking construction permit is unnecessary as readers unfamiliar with building jargon will likely know what it means.
    • It has a specific meaning in broadcasting, so I think this is merited. I've had other reviewers ask for this link.
  • Wikilink tape delayed for unfamiliar readers.
      • Noted, thanks.
  • "continued to promote itself as a sports destination" — I may be in error but "destination" in this context sounds slightly on the informal side.
  • Wikilink road game.
  • Both "tape delayed" and "tape-delayed" are each used once in this article; choose one spelling variation for consistency.
    • Second one is a hyphenated adjective.
      • I see!
  • "For children, the station was the home of "Captain 20", a" sounds slightly editorialised; recommend rephrasing.
  • "From 1972 until his 1984 death" — recommend "From 1972 until his death in 1984".
  • The sentence starting "Despite being the second independent…" is a bit of a mouthful; perhaps create a new sentence for the Varity line as "It had, per Paul Harris in Variety,"?
  • "the station conducted a schedule overhaul, increased its sports and movie telecasts" needs an and to connect the sentences.
  • "investor Robert Bass, and while" — recommend a semi-colon instead of a comma.
  • "$200 million on January 1, 1988, and missed the first payment deadline" — how about but instead of and here?
  • Even though the article is titled UPN, I would wikilink United Paramount Network instead of the acronym as it looks rather strange and inconsistent. Same with the lead if you decide not to trout me for this.
  • "In 2000, Viacom purchased CBS." — wikilink CBS as first mention in the body.
  • "the United in UPN" — hm?
    • UPN was a partnership of United Television and Paramount.
      • Ooh!
  • Could Chris-Craft be wikilinked somewhere?
  • "over UHF channel 20" – already linked.
  • "including a new 8:00 p.m. prime time newscast" — perhaps wikilink prime time? Likewise for the lead.
  • In § Newscasts, are the paragraphs necessary? I reckon just being one should be fine.
    • Kept the first paragraph break — there is a very large time gap between the first and second efforts!
      • That looks much better!

References

[edit]
  • I notice that the usage of retrieval dates is inconsistent, such as with refs 5 and 19–21 among others which are online URLs.
    • Cannot do this without a URL, which is how I write my ProQuest citations.
      • Noted!
Spotcheck
Refs 5; 12; 19; 22; 38; 51; 69; and 75 all good. WP:AGF on ref 42 as it keeps crashing my nimble mobile device.
  • For ref 63, I could not seem to verify the Friendship Heights part.
    • Added a separate ref invoke.
      • Good.
