Why did you put the article back on?
[edit]This is not an encyclopedia article. Many music critics haven't been calling WCRB, a classical music radio station for few years, I am sorry.
- What do you mean, "this is not an encyclopedia article"? Of course it is; it's not patent nonsense and it's informative. Plus, I personally LISTEN to WCRB (my car's radio is preset channel 1 as 102.5 FM, which is WRCB.) Your logic escapes me. Linuxbeak | Talk | Desk July 6, 2005 16:12 (UTC)
- Also, you're supposed to go through channels -- Votes for Deletion -- to get rid of an article. Blanking it only annoys people. Haikupoet 6 July 2005 19:05 (UTC)
- Two other errors: you forgot to sign your comment, and WCRB has been all-classical for many years. David spector (talk) 15:22, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Listeners
[edit]- I also listen to WCRV Classical and have it pre-set in my car, on my clock radio in the morning and listen while I am cooking dinner. I am annoyed that a Country Music station is displacing it from a better frequency. I think it is awful but I would not want to lose the station permanantly either.
I am glad this article is available so I could understand what has happened to WCRB. I can get it fine on my car radio but not on any of the four radios in my house. I used to wake up to music, now it is all talk, talk, talk on WGBH. Any way in which the signal can be altered at the level of one of our radios so we can pick it up?
- If any of the radios have a provision for an external antenna, you might try adding one. Also try different placement of the radios and their power cords. If the power cord is bunched up, undo it and move it around. Good luck!--agr 16:58, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
What's going on?
[edit]I heard a long involved announcement today (6/10/09) on the station, legalese detailing all sorts of partners and LLPs. Does anyone know what it means in plain English? It sounds as if WCRB is selling out again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.72.49.79 (talk) 22:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Future of Laura Carlo?
[edit]I hope she is gone when WGBH acquires the station. She is no asset as an announcer. Lame as hell.
Does WGBH plan to move their own announcers over from their own station, ow will they keep the existing WCRB staff? I agree that I would like to see Laura Carlo depart. She talks too much.
- While I do not agree with your inflammatory and cowardly unsigned opinion, unfortunately, it has been reported that she will stay as morning host at the new WCRB (Ray Brown will also continue). I miss Mary Ann Nichols, who was the former WCRB morning host, and I also miss many of the old WGBH classical music hosts. Clay Fuller, Ray Brown, Brian McCreath and Suzanne Bona will move from WGBH to WCRB as WGBH switches to all talk and news format.[1] By the way, much of the sub-optimality of recent Boston classical radio is due to the poor economy (a fact, not just my opinion).[2][3] David spector (talk) 15:11, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Call letters?
[edit]Does anyone know if they will keep the WCRB call letters, or will they be changed to something more like WBG(x)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.72.90.123 (talk) 03:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- The wcrb.com web site says "Bookmark 995allclassical.org as the future online home of 99.5 Boston's All Classical Station." That suggests to me that they plan to rebrand the station.--agr (talk) 20:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Nope. The WCRB call letters will be retained as the station switches to noncommercial classical music format. David spector (talk) 15:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, they were using WCRB call letters as of last night.--agr (talk) 15:35, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I wish to make a point about Laura Carlo. If voice is personality, then Laura Carlo sounds like a warm, understanding woman who enjoys what she is doing. She sounds like someone I would like to meet and converse with. As a long time fan of the late Robert J. Lurtsema, I very much enjoyed his on air persona and musical knowledge. Laura Carlo is a different type but a no less a valid presence in the world of classical music.Leaderoftheband (talk) 18:57, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Community and Innovation section
[edit]I have added a new Community and Innovation section, replacing the old Trivia section. The main reason is that WP policy prohibits trivia lists. Another reason is to emphasize the technical innovation facts that are mentioned in the lead section. David spector (talk) 15:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Demise?
[edit]It is 3:00 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2016. I woke up hearing 'talk' on my pre-set WCRB radio station and immediately thought the frequency had 'wandered'. When I found out that it was on the correct frequency, I went to my computer to search for an answer. Thank goodness that someone had the courage to have this Wiki site established to chronicle the demise of the only 24/7 classical music station in New England. Having recently returned to Massachusetts after several years, I was aware of the sale of WCRB to WGBH and the 'implied promise' to keep everything the way it was. This Wiki site serves a real community purpose in exposing the encroachment of control/money/talk promoters into the ever shrinking 24/7 classical music base. Thank you! 2601:199:4200:F158:B1BE:5590:5226:AABE (talk) 08:21, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
- At this hour it is on the air with classical music as usual. The article says nothing of a recent or impending change. Perhaps you were tuned to the former frequency, 102.5? Hertz1888 (talk) 08:52, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
