Disambiguation page needed. Throughout the 30s through 60s vulcanite was commonly used as the name for an artificial leather used on camera bodies. It may have been a trademark of Leica. Altaphon (talk) 20:11, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Vulcanite is also a term for hard black vulcanized rubber. It has probably been known for over a century, and iirc was used where modern rigid polymers — plastics — would be chosen, perhaps for electrical insulation.
