History

[edit]

It would be great if someone added the fact that the ancient greeks had a system of voluntary taxation: Liturgy_(ancient_Greece)

I have two questions because I am new to all this and I am having some trouble getting around:

  • First I would like to know how the information at the top of the article page was put there. I cannot seem to find out what is what in the "edit this page" section.
  • Second I would like to know if the solution to fixing this article is to find original sources and if that is all that needs to be done.

I would like to say thank you to C.Fred. I would rather create a poor article that gets deleted or fixed than a poor article that is not suitable for wikipedia but goes largely unnoticed. I was also wondering how I can talk to other users besides this discussion page.

I now believe I have fixed some of this article, please review. Thank you

Update: I have removed the deletion request part because I feel that my addition of the article The end of taxation? by James L. Payne and the cleaning up of my sources shows that the article is no longer original research. Please help me if I am incorrect. Thank you. Blindman6 22:58, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of things, first, each user has their own talk page (a link to mine appears here and in my signature). For discussion relating to the articles, the article talk page is generally more appropriate; for user-to-user discussions, the user's talk page is more appropriate.
Second, the boxes at the top of the page are generated by templates as shortcuts to inserting them. The {{Sources}} and {{OR}} templates are applied currently. I'm going to remove them and add the {{Unreferenced}} template, since the major assertions of the article need to be tied back to the sources directly using footnotes.
Finally, since there are academic sources, I am not going to pursue the deletion of this article any further at this time. I am, however, going to move it to Voluntary taxation—since it is not a proper title, the T in taxation should not be capitalized. —C.Fred (talk) 23:10, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fringe

[edit]

This article represents a clearly fringe view, with no citations. I've tagged as disputed.Oldtaxguy (talk) 04:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC) "Voluntary taxation", BTW, is a contradiction in terms. "Tax" and "taxation" refer solely to involuntary acts. Black's Law Dictionary states "Essential characteristics of a tax are that it is not a voluntary payment or donation, but an enforced contribution, exacted pursuant to legislative authority." Citations

[edit]

The first link is dead. I believe it refers to this article http://www.nationalaffairs.com/doclib/20080709_19931128theendoftaxationjameslpayne.pdf Can someone replace the old link with the new one? I would do it myself, but I'm unfamiliar with the wiki system. All of my previous edits have been minor.76.114.195.3 (talk) 22:54, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Biased sources

[edit]

The "sources" section only lists sources with one point of view. And the criticism section desperately needs sources. 81.231.66.157 (talk) 10:44, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
