Location for this article??
[edit]This article should go under VT Student Life (that's where the Highty Tighties are located) rather than Academics. Does anyone know how to move this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by an unspecified IP address (talk)
General Cadet Ranks
[edit]If you look at the Texas A & M Corp of Cadets there are ranks and insignia pictures. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_A%26M_University_Corps_of_Cadets. Can someone put up the VTCC ranks and insignia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.17.118.246 (talk) 20:03, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Junior Cadet Ranks
[edit]I was in the VTCC in college and here is my understanding of the junior cadet positions
- Sophomores and Juniors who hold no leadership positions are Cadet Privates.
- Freshman are called New Cadets the first semester, they are Freshman Cadet Privates (wear Private boards and white freshman belt), the second semester
- Cadet Private First Class is a rank for those who hold good grades but no leadership position. Can be bestowed upon Freshman, but a Freshman Cadet PFC can never outrank an upperclassman Cadet Private.
- Seniors with no leadership positions are known as Cadet Second Lieutenant. If they commit a serious disciplinary infraction, they can be demoted to Senior Cadet Private, wear Private boards, but still retain a senior gold chin strap and be saluted. -Husnock 14:46, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Unless they've changed it I'm pretty sure sophomores not in leadership roles are C/PFCs and juniors are C/SGTs, and freshman can become C/PVTs after a certain phase (I don't remember which one). 68.227.219.145 (talk) 03:05, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
That's changed. I'm a current cadet in the corps. The highest rank a Freshman can hold is Cadet Private. Sophomores who are Fire Team Leaders or their company clerk are Corporals, all unassigned Sophomores are PFC. Unassigned Juniors are Cadet Sergeants, and unassigned seniors are Cadet 2nd Lieutenants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dworkinjc (talk • contribs) 01:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hazing
[edit]Does anyone want to mention anything about the extreme hazing that goes on?
- It's fine to mention, but please remember the policies of WP:NOR and WP:V. In other words, a section on hazing from your own personal experience would NOT be appropriate, but one that cites media reports of hazing would be in keeping with Wikipedia policies. BigDT 11:30, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Extreme hazing? I'm a '97 grad and I don't recall any "extreme hazing." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.154.229.139 (talk) 12:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm currently a freshman in the Corps and I can attest that there is absolutely no hazing whatsoever in the VTCC. I cannot speak for previous bud classes, but as far as it is now, hazing is not an issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.101.231.68 (talk) 02:42, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Copyright Issues
[edit]I think this article, especially the history section may be in need of a rewrite as there are many sections that seem taken word for word from the following site: http://www.armyrotc.vt.edu/Cadets/vtcchist.htmJsonitsac (talk) 18:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is indeed a copyvio and the material has been removed. Here is the diff adding the material in June of 2005, and the Wayback Machine results from Nov 2003. I'm pretty sure I salvaged all of the images from the history section. Sorry--DO11.10 (talk) 02:06, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
I am a cadet at VTCC and I'm 100% positive the Army ROTC detachment would not mind the copying, what do you do to add it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.82.67.163 (talk) 13:29, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm that same cadet, in this information is copied from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Guidon, this information is also available in recruitment packets and other public domain documents, it is not private information and is literary copied word for word. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.82.67.163 (talk) 13:16, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Article badly mauled
[edit]Through edits over the past few months, there are now several broken links, the opening creast picture has been disabled, and half of the information on the cadet regiment structure is gone. I can't begin to tell where the bad edits started so dont want to try reverting. Someone with more time on this article should make an effort to repair it. -OberRanks (talk) 20:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Slant
[edit]A cursory look at the article reveals a significant bias in favor of the topic reported by including such phrases as, “Throughout all of this, the Corps maintained discipline and high esprit,” and that the Corps, “exemplified the motto of Ut Prosim,” all unsubstantiated. I don’t know whether this was written by a source close to the subject matter— I saw an earlier discussion on this page about sections copy-pasted from the VTCC website, so that may instead may be the cause — but I think regardless that this article requires additional citations and rewrites of some sections in order to create a more neutral tone.
