Lacking information
[edit]There are some sections that are lacking information. I plan to edit these very soon. There also is an issue with the photo in the "Acid throwing" subsection. I am waiting to hear back from an adviser regarding how to properly site/get permission to use the photo from a CNN article. Swaugaman (talk) 01:17, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- There were a few citation errors that I have fixed. Not all news sourced references have a link to the originating article. Suggest that you as page originator fix this, it's likely to be easier for you to find the original sources. I also strongly suggest using
{{cite}}
templates for references. --220 of Borg 03:50, 14 April 2014 (UTC)- You could find some useful images at commons:Category:Violence against women in India. -Ugog Nizdast (talk) 10:04, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Suggestions
[edit]As you mentioned, you are lacking quite a bit of information, particularly in some of the later sections. In particular, it would be helpful to define the different forms of violence against women- for instance, what is a dowry death? Also, you could expand the section on acid throwing and discuss more in depth the reasons behind the throwing. In that section, I would state the reasons for the acid throwing before the statistics. I found the section on modesty a bit confusing- it would be helpful to clarify the role of modesty in violence against women in India. Both the section on abductions and the section on domestic violence should be expanded, with a lot more information in each one. If there is not enough to say about each of those, consider changing it to subsections, instead of giving each one its own section. In some areas, you do seem to rely on anecdotes rather than information about broader trends. The other sections were excellent- very clear, concise, incredibly informative. One final comment is that the flow of the article is a bit choppy in some places- consider combining some of your shorter sentences. Otherwise excellent article. NogaArdon (talk) 01:46, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for your suggestions. I have already applied some of them to the article and will continue working on the sections that require more information. Swaugaman (talk) 00:36, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi! A few suggestions- 1) The link for the citation [1] does not work anymore, 2) A link to the main article of female infanticide is under female foeticide and not female infanticide, which is a little confusing, especially since the section 'female infanticide' is a right above the section of 'female foeticide'. Feedback
[edit]The article is developing nicely. I agree with Noga on providing definitions for some of the VAW categories and expanding a bit the very short sections. On Modesty, I suggest changing that to "Insult to modesty" since "modesty" is not the VAW category. The first table, in the lead paragraph could be placed after the first paragraph, if possible. Also, move the comma after the first number in each statistic: e.g. of 2012 it should be 244,270, is that correct? I suggest removing the cycle of violence image because it is not clear to see and it is not an India-specific image, as far as we know. The last stat in the abductions table is missing a digit at the end. Honor killings (second word should not be capitalized in the section title) section needs a citation to Appiah (the course reading). You have a good set of links, but could add more. You have excellent citations. On a bigger note, the article seems to be a catalog of VAW and the stats, but you can go beyond this by integrating VAW in the context of Nussbaum's capabilities framework (to be able to lead violence-free lives is a basic universal capability and in India, given the rise in reported VAW incidents, women are increasingly deprived of this capability. Add this discussion early in the article. BerikG (talk) 06:08, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
I have also looked at your suggestions, and they are much appreciated. I am currently working on applying them. Swaugaman (talk) 00:36, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
The layout could use some help from an experienced Wikipedia editor. The placement of tables is not the best currently, and I have had difficulty trying to fix this. Swaugaman (talk) 00:20, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]2012 Crime Rate against Women per 100000 in India by its States and Union Territories, VAW Map Image show wrong information (uttar pradesh 3rd highest no. in crimes against women).Data Source: Crime in India 2012 Statistics, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, Table 5.1, page 385. --Bongan (talk) 09:48, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- The image takes into consideration the crime rate ("per 100,000"), which is given in the last column of the table you're referring to.
- You're referring to absolute figures. Comparing states in terms of absolute numbers doesn't make much sense, because different states have different number of people. A state whose population is 200 million will obviously have more number of crimes than a state whose population is 2 million. utcursch | talk 22:21, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- @utcursch Yes, but I find new mistake in image see Haryan is a no. 1 in Crime Rate against Women.

Editing/adding to article
[edit]Hello, I am interested in potentially expanding this article. If I were to edit this article, I would definitely keep the current structure and the sections on the various types of violence that women in India face. I am, however, looking to expand each section/header as I think that there could be a lot more data/statistics/information that can be added. I am also hoping to introduce cultural, political, economic, regional, and legal differences that scholarly research has shown to contribute to violence against women in India. MYao (talk) 01:46, 11 September 2015 (UTC)MYao
Hi, I am wondering if the section on the alleged misuse of the anti-dowry law/male suicides that is currently located under the Domestic Violence heading is in the right place. It seems to address a different issue rather and not be specifically related the discussion of domestic violence against women in India.
