The bio suggests that Courtillot has a PhD from Stanford, but Stanford lists only a MS awarded in 1972. Mark Brandon, Yale University —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.120.176 (talk) 03:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

University of Paris

[edit]

I noticed a few anachronisms regarding French higher education names:

  • The University of Paris, aka the Sorbonne, was broken up into several universities in the early 70's as far as I know. I doubt Vincent Courtillot ever studied at the old Sorbonne.
  • The ParisTech moniker for Parisian engineering schools (e.g. Mines ParisTech) is a recent evolution. At the times when myself or Courtillot studied, this school was known under its (still current) official name, École nationale supérieure des Mines de Paris, generally shortened as École des Mines de Paris, École des Mines or simply « les Mines ». Lack of objectivity

[edit]

The following sentence is a subtle accusation, not an objective information: "Vincent Courtillot said that his collaboration with Total and Schlumberger on CO2 sequestration (CCS)[6][7] has no influence on his research and results". It would be more honest to spell this accusation explicitly in a separate paragraph, such as "Controversy", with a text such as "Vincent Courtillot has been accused of being biased because of his collaboration with Total and Schlumberger on CO2 sequestration (CCS). He has firmly stated that it had no influence on his research and results. Moreover, he said that scientists working for the GIEC could be accused of being biased in the opposite direction to get more funding." The reader would understand that there is a controversy and that each side has arguments. The way it is written now sounds a bit like "the criminal swears that he didn't do it". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:8A9A:CE30:942C:9FB3:5A1C:9AB5 (talk) 21:33, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
