Disputed material
[edit]Valedictorian
[edit]The bit about being a valedictorian was removed by David Gerard[1] because Newsweek became unreliable after 2013. Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Good day everyone!
- I understand why Mr Gerard made his edits and i understand he removed controversial content from the page because its a BLP. And i did not return any of the contoversial content back.
- Back to the matter
- Newsweek isnt deprecated. Its yellow colored, and not red colored (green color being the best). I believe yellow means use sparingly and depending on the content you're citing.
- The newsweek citation was initially used on the page on more than one occassion. I re-added the part that said he was a valedictorian because it is a good example of when to use a "yellow link" because that piece of info isn't controversial. The same article said he wasnt allowed to give a speech because he was a republican in a liberal dominated school and i didnt add that part back to the write up. "Key" conservative influencer
[edit]The assertion that Dao is a "key" influencer is only supported by Rolling Stone[2] which is not considered reliable on this issue per WP:ROLLINGSTONEPOLITICS. The second Rolling Stone piece about the issue ridicules Dao and does not position him as "key". Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies to the community, i didnt know rollingstone politics was deprecated. My bad. Wallclockticking (talk) 15:39, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
White nationalist
[edit]The assertion that Dao supports white nationalism was published by Political Research. Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Ok. Dao isn't white, he is vietnamese. I dont know if a non caucasian can be a white nationalist. That is the reason i removed it. I did the removal in good faith. Wallclockticking (talk) 15:45, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Any person of any color or race can promote white nationalism. Binksternet (talk) 16:40, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Vince dao is clearly not a white nationalist. that's something that is obvious. but I would not consider Political Research. A reliable source because it dose obviously seem to be to politically motivated. The same can be said about Salon.com, so I would support this source being removed from this article, as well as the other sources that source this organization in there articles. would consider anything in the second paragraph of the "Career" section to be fairly unreliable. so that's the only major part of the article that should be removed--Zyxrq (talk) 21:03, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
Black Lives Matter
[edit]The stuff about BLM and twitter account suspension was removed by David Gerard[3] because the supporting cites were unreliable. The text was re-added by Wallclockticking without any sourcing![4] This cannot stand in a WP:BLP article. Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Dao's supposed advocacy of christian views on marriage. and his views about foreign interventions by the United States, are not supported by the cited source, the RNHA website. Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC) Binksternet (talk) 15:13, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- These are my words. I used my words to summarize what his content is about because in wikipedia we are meant to use our words and not copy cited material verbatim to avoid plagiarism. Wallclockticking (talk) 15:37, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- I don't see those ideas introduced in the source. Dao says he is "pro-family" but he doesn't define what he means by that. And I saw nothing about foreign policy. Binksternet (talk) 15:51, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- The onus is on you to find out the meaning, sir. Wallclockticking (talk) 16:01, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Actually, Wikipedia's policy of WP:ONUS says that disputed material stays out of the article until consensus is formed to restore it. One person supporting it and one person against it means there is no consensus to include. Binksternet (talk) 16:34, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Onus means: Responsibilty, obligation
- Use in the above context.
- The "responsibility" falls on you to know the meaning of a word you are arguing against. So what do you mean by "he doesn't define what it means"? On what day did it become a norm that every terminology in every citation has to be defined within the text?

- Also, the link to foreign policy is there.
