Proposed merge
[edit]The article Movie Making Software contains content which properly belongs in the video editing software. "Movie making software" appears to be an idiosyncratic or slang term for "video editing software". Bwithh 22:20, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Support as per nom. Girolamo Savonarola 22:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- It should not be merged. The two are similar but distinctly different. As an example, GEAR Video, which is listed as an example of movie making software, cannot be used to edit videos. But it can be used to make movies. Therefore, it would not fit in the video editing software category, only in the movie making software category. 24.3.182.5 13:29, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell from its article page, Gear is a DVD authoring program. That's not actually movie making, it's movie burning/disc authoring. Perhaps this article can link to Optical disc authoring software in the See Also section instead? Girolamo Savonarola 20:15, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- The title should be "Automatic Video Editing Software" instead. Then it can become part of Video Editing Software with a new dimesion. Video Editing Can be classified as
a) Manual Video Editing (Where user has to select cut points)
b) Automatic Video Editing(Where cut points are not needed)

- Is this a citable classification scheme, or simply one that you're proposing? Girolamo Savonarola 09:06, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. This is a recent field, with muvee being the pioneer in this area.
There is no Movie Making software in the world as of my knowledge. Alternatively we can have "Home Movie" making sofware which is nothing but "automatic video editing" software for mass users. Rapsage 05:55, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Marketing in the field aside, the term movie making is so broad (including, but not limited to screenwriting, pre-production, visual effects, etc) and the varied range of software available for each sub field so numerous (Final Cut, Movie Magic, After Effects) that to have a article about Movie Making Software that is NOT a disambiguation page or list page is a disservice to the topic. Therefore, I suggest merging the two pages under discussion and starting a Movie Making Software List. Geoffmark 18:10, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- I Agree for a merge into "Video Editing Software", but title "Movie Making" is confusing the community and hence we are getting unnecessary traction into "Film Making".Rapsage 10:16, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree for merge, and possibly another merge with "Film Editing" - many of the principles of editing film (eg. Hollywood movies) also apply to editing video (e.g. TV/Corporate Videos). Nowadays the same NLE software is generally used for both - mainly AVID and Apple's Final Cut Pro in Hollywood, as these fully support 24-frame pulldown issues, creation of neg logs etc.
Rapsage is correct: "movie" is just slang for a film. We need to start the topic with an explanation of media and genres (as pertaining to the editing thereof), then move on to the practice and aesthetics of editing, and from there a sub-section on NLE software. Hmmm... time to dig out the old film school text-books!
Oh, and regarding "Automatic Video Editing", well, that is just a novelty. Would you get a robot to write a novel? Editing is a skill akin to storytelling; it's not just about being able to use NLE software, just as being able to use a word-processor doesn't make you an author.

- Thank you for the notification. I've reverted it to the prior state. Girolamo Savonarola 23:56, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
no reason to be bad
